Default detroit locker

so i went to summit racing and i found two lockers for my car. (sticking with the 7.5) one is eaton detroit truetrac differential pt.# dtl912a316 and the other is eaton detroit locker pt.#dtl162c57a. so i was wondering besides the 120$ price difference, what are the difference between the two. i saw the descriptions and on the truetrac it says it splits the tq between the wheels and on the other it says it feeds 100% of the tq to both wheels. is that it? im planing on getting one and going 3.73 motive gears. but i wanna know if one is better, stronger or what whats the deal between them. thanks in advance

You want the truetrac. A locker is different than an lsd and not great for street use. Lockers are used in off-road applications alot.

the ones on summit are all for the 8.8" rear so dont order them unless you have that rear end

Lockers "lock" both wheels and suck for anything outside of drag racing or off road racing/crawling. LSD(limited slip) is the bomb-diggy. The Tru-Trac rearend is an LSD unit, go with that.

The Eaton Tru-Trak is a modern version of the old Gleason worm gear. It does not have any clutch packs to wear out, and does not need friction additive. For road racing, it's the best thing going.

Unless you're pushing a lot of power, you probably don't need it. You mightsave some money with a standard Ford LSD.

Get the eaton LSD and don't worry about it ever again. Toss in a rear girdle and upgrade the axles if you are going to push some serous power one day.
