Default Throttle body help

Almost done with 88 5.0 rebuild. Got the GP40p heads on. Got BBK shorty exhaust heads on. Now almost got the Cobra intake on (Ford Part #RF-XL2F-9425-AB) a non erg intake. Now was going to install old throttle body and find out its erg and doesn't fit to the Cobra intake. Need recommendation for throttle box (and non erg spacer if required) would like a 65mm or 70mm throttle body. Also, a diagram of where all the wires and line plug into if such a thing exists. Thanks, Steve.

The part # you listed is not the correct number for a oem Cobra gt40 intake.RF-F3ZE-9425-CA is the correct number.I haven't seen the part number you listed on any similar intakes either. There are other gt40 intakes also, off the 95-01 Ford Explorers/Mountaineers & china made gt40 intake too.Their part numbers start with a F followed by a number, such as F3= 93 F4= 94 F8= 98.The number you listed starts out with 2 letters (XL) instead of 1 letter and 1 number. The oem Cobra intake had one of the following part numbers.
RF-F3ZE-9425-CA
RF-F3ZE-9425-CB
A fake (made in China) Cobra intake was also sold.It has a Ford Racing logo on it beside where the throttle body bolts to it.Two pictures are shown below of the real & fake intake.

The diagrams below show the two main harnesses for the engine.

Thanks so much for your info and pictures. Amazingly things are starting to come together - I think. The intake came off a 97 Explorer so my web search says. I'm going with a SVE 70mm throttle body and Adair spacer.

Are you required to do emissions testing in your state/county?? If yes,the intake has to be from a 95-97.5 Explorer because the 97.5-2001
Explorer intake didnt come with egr passages in the upper or lower intake. If its the 95-97.5 intake, the upper & lower intake will have a hole in the very center of them, where the upper bolts to the lower. The pictures below show the differences. If you bought the intake from an individual,
they might have drilled/tapped the holes already to mount the act sensor & egr spacer coolant return
fitting. If not,or if you bought it at Pull-A-Part,you'll have to do this yourself,if its the early style intake and you plan to run the egr valve.A flat boss is located at both locations on the lower intake where these holes have to be drilled. If you don't have to run the egr valve, either intake can be used, however, the boss isnt present & the port wall is too thin at the act sensor location on the later style intake, which means you cant drill/tap a hole there.Because of this, you'll have to find a new location for the act sensor.
If you've got the early style intake,
all you need to do (if you wanna run the egr valve) is run a egr spacer between the throttle body & intake,
just like you do on a 86-93 stock intake setup.
When the intake was still on the Explorer,it had a curved elbow attached to it,like the 94-95 Mustangs, that the egr valve bolted to.Thats the reason why theres no bolt holes or passage on the back of the intake for mounting a egr valve.
Here are the pictures of a egr/non egr intake.

Thanks for the information. I now know with certainty I have the non egr lower/upper Explorer GT40 system 97.5-2001. So I can install a non egr spacer and a 70mm TB. Easy question, I ordered the SVE 70mm 86 - 93. Will it fit the Explorer GT 40 upper? Hope so. What TB would you recommend and do I need the non egr spacer. I see SVE does have a 75mm TB for <$200 that's cheaper the the BBK's.
Again thanks for educating me. I'm a little slow up getting there.. I think

You've got two choices in how you can go about doing this.
1) Buy egr DELETE SPACER
2) Buy egr spacer to match the 70mm throttle body you're buying + mount your egr valve to the new egr spacer or buy/make a egr DELETE PLATE to cover the egr passage in the new spacer.

The reason you need either a egr spacer or egr delete spacer is because both of these parts have mounting holes for your throttle cable. If you don't install one or the other, you won't have a way to secure the throttle cable bracket and the cable will flex & move around everytime you apply the throttle.

The following two links are for a
egr delete spacer and delete plate.

The two pictures show both parts.

Great answer. Thanks. I'll proceed with the spacer and let all know how this project turns out. Sure is a lot more involved than I'd ever believed. Learning a lot thanks to guys like you on this forum.
