Default Differences Between 99-00 / 01-04

Can someone please explain to me what exactly are the differences between the 99-00 V6 Mustang and the 01-04 V6 Mustang. I really need to determine what, if any, the differences are!! I own an 1999 3.8 L V6 Mustang 5 speed Manual trans. Prior to my getting this ( free btw ) car, the engine was swapped out with a used engine from a 2002 3.8 L V6 Mustang. The reason for the swap is the kid that was driving the car drove it into high water and hydro-locked the engine. Well needless to say, the engine swap was poorly done as far as quality and craftsmanship of the job. At it's core, the power train seems to be strong and sound. But not even 6 months of driving one thing after another started to go wrong with the car. Finally the water pump failed and I had to park her for a while in order to invest resources into her. So far what I have been doing when it comes to purchasing parts is when it comes to parts that are bolted to or in the engine I order 02 parts. Everything else I order 99 parts. I don't know how well this is working really because I just had to do the motor mounts this past weekend and they were a complete nightmare. ( A little background to demonstrate my experience....I have been working on my own vehicles since I was 14 yrs old I am 42 now. My dad taught me, who has 50 yrs experience working on cars and engines, his dad taught him....you get the idea....we know our way in and out of a toolbox. ) Suffice it to say, I'm no slouch when it comes to maintenance and mods on my own rides and very well tooled for it. So when I say that the mounts were a nightmare I really mean that. Both of the replacement mounts had to be modified to make them fit properly. I have her running and on the road again right now, but she is only good for around town. She still needs a bit more work on her in order to get her reliable and safe enough to drive from coast to coast. So please anyone that reads this long winded post about my poor car and actually in fact know the differences between the year breaks in the V6 New Edge Mustangs.....shoot me an email, or reply to this post, or tell me which website to lookup. Thank you very much!

The WIKI page has it all, and, it is here too.

2000+ are called "New Edge" for new body styling and looks, everything
else is the same. It's not bigger, wider, nothing, just has updated looks
on the outside only, and that's it.

This isn't accurate. The new edge started in 1999. There were several differences in engine producing more HP and TQ and slight differences in the interior.

Late to the party...

Yeah 2000+ are all New Edge, so is 1999+ so is 2001+, so is what? I am
surprised you didn't bother to say NOT 2000+, 1999 only to 2004. Missed that
huh? I summarized it, and I said he can look it up on Wiki, which would have,
as I said, told him everything he needed to know. A month later, you have an
answer, which is all on Wiki... Great, good job...

End of production in 04 they used left over 3.9 blocks, slightly longer stroke, that's it, the only difference between 01-04 and 99/00 is in 01 they added intake manifold runners and the throttle body was in a slightly different spot with the different upper intake

Water pump and such is just general maintence on a 20 year old car
