Default V6 transplant

hello everyone. I have a 66 mustang with a straight 6 and i would like some more power and was thinkin of putting a 4.0 v6 with a supercharger in it. My question is has anyone done this that can give me some tips or does anybody know where i can get good affordable parts for this job. Thanks

I think that if you do this you will be one of the pioneers of such a swap.

is the 4.0 V-6 you are talking about a Mod motor, or is it an older style OHV engine?

A Mod motor will require removal or serious modification to the shock towers, but an old OHV should not be an overly complicated swap as swaps go...

All I say is be careful as to putting in an engine into a car that didn't originally come with that type of engine... It can be VERY hard to get parts to work with it and a lot of custom stuff to be machined. Why not just put in a V8? Probably be a lot cheaper and easier. You are not gonna find ready made stuff to put a V6 in a 66 Mustang without some modifications...

build the 6 cylinder up there are hop up parts

a inline 6 makes more torque than a v6, build a blown i6

Yep. I thought about doing something similar to this a little while ago. Was told V6s don't have alot of torque so I backed out. Now I am working on building my 6 up.

Well, V6s do make a lot of torque if they are built correctly, but it is easier to make the torque with an inline because basically of their design. Throw on a turbo, maybe an aluminum head and good intake, carb, and header and let it rip those tires off. It will be way easier and should make more HP, way more torque, and honestly, it can probably be done for less money.

I can see that it could be advantageous to use a V-6 instead of an inline due to a couple of reasons, primarily, they are as a rule, built from a much newer design than any inline..

The OP also mentioned a supercharged V-6.... I think that this is kind of a cool idea.

Yea, there would be a lot involved in this, but if it was well planned with the right donor car, it could be a viable swap.

You can S/C or T/C a I6 also. Just look around fordsix forums.

But keep in mind that any power improvements like a turbo, etc. will require upgrading of the rest of the drivetrain.
