My 1985 Mustang GT idles at 1400 when the engine is warm. I am able to give a quick jab on the accelerator pedal and the idle speed returns to normal. About 600 RPM. I have the same "High Idle" problem every time I stop at a traffic light.

Note the choke does open up fully when the engine is at normal temperature.

I believe if it is all factory carb still..thaT THERE is a dash pot / idle bump up infront of the throttle linkage and check the linkage to make sure the idle bump up on the choke circuit isn't hanging open...if you had a pic of your carb set up I could tell better what you are equipped with..it's been a while since I removed my stock stuff
