Default 5.0 carb tuning

Finally got the rex close to streetable. I know its way rich really boggy all around. Its punched out to 306,1405 edelbrock carb 600 cfm, trick flow stage 1 cam, edelbrock performer intake, stock heads ,roller rockers and stock timing. I'm not to sure about tuning 4 stroke carbs but does anyone know were i should begin to adjust itor what jets i should be running and around what rpm i should set the idle to. I have it set around 700-750 sounds cool there but i'm not sure exactly what it should be at. i haven't touched anything besides the idle screw.I've tuned 2 stroke dirtbike carbs so i kinda have an idea but theres alot more going on with these. Thanks for any help i get.

What'a the compression? And what is your timing at now? Check the plugs as well, and post pics if you can. Plugs tell you what's going on in the combustion chamber.

Good luck with that edelbrock. I went from a 600 edelbrock to a Holley 650 double pumper which was just a lil bit too big for my stock motor and gained a whole lot of throttle response on an 85 GT. It was like the difference between day and night, but to each their own. Here's the best info I've found floating around the net for tuning a carb.

600 is big enough for that how ever you made the mistake of getting an edlebrock carb. a holley 650 dp is a great carb and you can always detune it so its not putting so much gas in your car. first thing you should do is advance your timing and see how she runs from there

try to download the edelbrock tuning manual for these carbs. its a great step by step on what to do, you'll need to pick up their equivalent of a trick kit, rods, springs and jets. basically if you're used to holley tuning the rod is the jet. its tappered so when its at part throttle you have a smaller jet, WOT larger jetting. springs are power valves and you have the squirter on the front. move the lever on the squirter down gives it more fuel quicker. super easy to work w/.
