Default Base Timing on Carbed Engine

What are your guys thoughts on based timing running a carb? Currently I am running 18 degrees. If I go any lower I have to adjust my carb idle too much and the throttle blades are open too far causing a rich idle. I have set my Idle air/fuel based on max vacuum.
