Default 88 LX 5.0 acting strange

I just bought this car and sometimes it just die's when at idle and other times when Im driving and come to a stop and put it in park or neutral it idles really high like 1300-1500 rpm. Whats the deal here? What should I replace or check?

Check your IAC Valve. Try unplugging it to see idle characteristics.

I recommend cleaning it our really well and watching for improvement.

You may want to try restricting the air flow thru it to keep idle speed down. Some people will epoxy a 1/2 Dia. copper pipe in (the inlet side) air passage of the IAC valve and then drill a hole in till they get the idle speed they want. I hear drilling a 3/16 dia. is the smallest hole size you should try. I think I went with a 7/32 hole in mine. Some people go a little larger but I don't remember the maximum recommended size.
