Default Good heads that won't break the bank.

I am wondering what kind of quality heads there are out there that are under a grand that will perform well with out having my wife smack me around for putting more money into my car. I'm not looking to break any land speed records but I would like to beat on some hondas and spank the occasional camero, if I can find one to beat.

get ready for a rash of comments about "buying the right part the first time" and so on, for cheap performance (with cheap being the primary thing and performance taking a back seat) hunt down a set of gt40's out a junk yard, here in NC you can generally find them for 300 to 500 used. But as many guys on here will say, gt40's are stock parts, stock parts on 260-280 horse motors but stock non the less

A company called Powerheads offer a nice set of ported E7's. They come with stainless valves and flow real well. I bought a pair a couple of years ago for $800. My LSC equipped with an AOD made almost 260 RWHP and 300 RWTQ with these heads and a small Crower 15511 cam. FYI, the car is still speed density.

By the time you purchase a used set of 351W heads and just do a basic valvejob, you are well over $600. Add a set of new stainless valves and a set of sprigs, you are nearing a $1000. Stock 351W heads still don't flow as well as GT40's or ported E7's.

Dont waste your time with GT40's. The gain is minimal. Been there done that.

The Edelbrock E street heads are only around 950 bucks if you are on a tight budget.

RHS, a company owned by Competition Cams, has some heads out that are in your price range.
If you are using a 302, I wouldn't get more than about 185cc runners.....

For 1K just buy a new set of TFS twisted wedge. If you buy a used set of GT40's you won't notice much difference. If you pay $300 for a set that need to be worked or have a bunch of miles you'll spend a good bit having them redone.
It takes alot to get 500 hp out of a 302. Just heads and cam won't do it.
