Default 85 gt Fuel problem

Recently to get the car to start I have had to crank it for about 30 seconds when its cold. After some inspection, I discovered the fuel filter right before the carb it totally drained. I believe there is no pressure regulator, so I assumed it would be my fuel pump is not holding any pressure. Just wanted to see what everyone thinks before I spend a 100 bucks on a new one. Thanks!

i seem to have the same problem on my 85 gt hatch also... whenever i try to crank it for the first time it just wont turn over. itll crank and crank but no start. then i stop n try again and it turns right over after some pumping of the gas. it gets embarrising after a wile... i was told i need to retard the timing... i need to do complete tune up oil change soon anyways. also its only a weekend/ nice day car....

I ended up doing a full tune up and checked my timing. All seemed well. I have a clear Fuel filter right before the carb and after a few hours of sitting it empty's. I cant find a leak anywhere and it now has a new fuel pump. I dont know what else to do at this point, since Im not much of a mechanic. It has gotten embarrassing though. Kind of a bummer, I just busted it out for the summer (wisconsin winters arent very good for it) and now I can hardly drive it

It was super easy. Like 4 bolts and 25 minutes. It would have been quicker but the nut if my fuel line ( carb to pump) was stripped.
