Killed it
Sorry to bring back a dead post, but I need to defend my self apparently.
From what he told me it was a 1997 Eagle Talon TSi. Stock turbo and only performance mods was his catback. He didn't give any excuses about a bad launch, but maybe he didn't tell me. I will talk to him again and maybe film a second run since some people can't accept a fact.

TSI's were AWD turbo, ESI's came in a FWD turbo and a FWD non-turbo (only on certain years). A 97 Talon TSI with an auto is crap, my buddy had one and lost to a 92 miata. A 97 Talon TSI with a 5-speed is capable of low low 15s with a good driver. My guess would be that you are running very similiar times. I would say either A) He is an auto, or B) He is an ESI with FWD. Get it on tape, I'm not calling BS, but those things can launch like a MotherFker. How high was he launching? Was he really revving it up there before he dropped the clutch? If not its either an auto or he's an idiot.
