Default Killed a Lightning

So here's the scoop!!!! It rained all day yesterday and lightly early that night, so I didn't want to get out in the Vette. Well, I went and saw a movie with some buddies and I was late, so they all rode together and I met them there. I decided to drive the Vette because it had dried up outside. Well on the way home, one of my buddies wanted to ride with me. I had to stop and get some gas, so the others went ahead without us. As I pull out of the gas station and head towards the North/South Tollway, I see a Lightning getting on the Tollway. Well I pass up the Tollway on-ramp because I opted not to race at first. I then said, heck no, I'm getting on the tollway. So I downshift and take off down the service road to the next on ramp. I get on, catch up to the Lightning, and start to play with him. Well as I pull up next to him, he wouldn't do much. I start gassing my car in 4th to inform him of my intentions. At this point, we are doing about 70. He then decides to oblige me and romps on it. I downshift to 3nd and take off!!! He held on my side to about the middle of 3rd. At the top of 3rd gear I was beginning to leave him, and when I hit 4th, I was gone. I ended up hitting 125 and he was about 5 car lenghts behind. I then slowed down, rolled down my passenger window, and and my passenger and I give him the thumbs up. He smiles right back and the decides to try me again. This time I take no prisoners. I downshift to 2nd at about 70 mph knowing I will be right in my powerband. He didn't do so well the second time with me in my powerband, but I have to admit, those are some fast trucks. If I had to do it all over though, I would be in Competitive Mode (traction control turned off). Too bad I have a 2000 and have to be completely stopped to make it engage. Well, that's the new story.

In my car second gear goes to about 62 mph and that's just touching redline. He has a new C5, so yes I believe it. What mph do you usually shift at?

I have a 2000 C5 with 3.42's in the rear. 1st gear redlines at around 50, 2nd at 75, and 3rd at 103. I haven't redlined 4th or 5th yet, and 6th won't redline with the amount of power I have. At 70 mph in 2nd, I am right in my powerband. I'm sorry if you don't believe it, but unlike most teenie boppers around here, I don't come here posting made up crap. See if you can find someone with a manual C5 and they will show you.

I have nothing to prove to you. Why would I want to make that up? I can understand that you are driving a lesser performer (Ford) stock for stock that is not capable of this, but Vette's have pretty tall gears. Wanna find out for yourself? Why not go test drive a Vette. It seems everyone on here thinks your a money man, so I'm sure they'd let you. If that doesn't work for you, go to www.corvettekillstories.com and create a user name. Ask the guys there, or ask any new Vette owner. Not sure if you know this, but a new Viper can run almost all the way up to 60 in 1st gear.
