Thats what I did with my old 94 gt. I wrecked it and it screwed up the whole rearend. I asked the body shop to find me some used peices and they found a used (lower mileage) complete rearend and wheels for cheap. That just put it under the point where they'd total it. Thank God they didnt.

If you want to keep your car and them not to total it ask them to use "Used Parts" That's what happened to me. Someone slammed into the back of me at a light and the repairs exceded the totalled value of the car. So the body shop said they could just use used parts and fix it. Actually with the extra money that they saved they re-painted the car for me for free. But I do still have problems with the hatch.

Yeah you could always start wearin that nice blue oval. I like it a whole lot better than that bowtie!
"only little boys wear bowties". haha.
And AIDS usually causes blue ovals on your skin.

No kidding. I could never wear a blue oval (unless I'm freakishly rich and need one for my car collection). I wasn't raised that way, and I breath, eat, and sleep GM.

Funny, because my best friend is the same way.........will never own a Ford. It's funnier because last year he rolled his 96 Firebird and can't afford to buy a new car. So, he has been driving around in a POS 80's Nissan Sentra and it is cramping his style..........but his eyes get all glassy when he sees my new GT. He keeps asking me when I'm gonna let him drive it. But I don't want him ending up in a statewide police chase with my car (him+V8+stickshift=high speed hijinx). He's beating off his discouragement right now with thoughts of buying a new Camaro when they come out in a few years.
I guess brand loyalty is almost genetic to some ppl.

I am also mainly a big GM guy, but I also like a lot of Mopar stuff and there are a coupla Fords I'd like to have, like an '87-91 5.0 LX hatch or a Lightning. Mach 1's are cool, too.

She has seen my choice of forums before and winced. I told her: "Mom, I got to know the enemy."

The adjusters looked at it priced it and said this: They pay off the loan I had out on it (I paid half cash, half loan for the car) and give me $4k. I can buy the car from them for $2K. The car was looked at and the rear axle broke, along with numerous other stuff under there. (On a side note, when we were in the ditch, wrecked, I had to turn the car off.) My Mom (still mad, though relieved) is going to accept today. She told me my next vehicle will be mostly stock.
