hmm I always wondered how close a LS1 Vette and a LS1 T/A or Camaro would be?? I've never seen this race, has anyone else?

WS6 = SS = Z28....how many times does this have to be played out
The vette with the ls1 would pull out the win because of it's weight, and aerodynamics I would think, given equal drivers.

ws6 is faster because the ram-air (which denotes the name "ws6" rather than just firebird) adds a few hp with speed. i also thought that ss and ws6 had better tuning from the factory, or intake and exhaust upgrades, or sumn, but im not sure.

also, the c5 vette had an ls1, not ls2. the c6 vette has the ls2. the c5 z06 had an ls6, and the c6 z06 has an ls7 IIRC.

NO!!!! NO!!!!! NO!!!!! You guys need to stop beliving the hype. I own and work on these cars every day. The SS and WS6 cars are NOT any faster than the regular Z or T/A or Firebird. The ram air hood does nothing and the tuning is the same. 01-02 cars had the LS6 intake so they made about 10 rwhp more, but ALL 01-02 LS1's had it. The ratings are all over the place on these cars for marketing reasons, but they all dyno pretty much the same and more important they all run close to the same times at the track (givin equal drive train options).

The only factory stock F-Bodies that were quicker than others were the SS and Firehawks that were ordered with the optional SLP stuff right from the factory.

The optional SLP stuff included:
* SLP Power-Flo (dual-dual) Cat-Back
* SLP/Bilstein Suspension Kit
* SLP/Auburn Pro Series Diff.
* SLP/Donaldson Blackwing Air Lid w/high flow paper filter

A SS or Firehawk with the lid and exhaust will be faster.

As for LS1 F-Body vs LS1 Vette it's pretty much a drivers race. The Vette has a slightly better flowing exhaust but also has a power gulping IRS.

I have raced several stock Vette's in my Camaro SS and the only one that pulled on me had a nice Z06 405HP emblem on the side.

I think a nice stripper Z28 M6 should be able to kill a A4 Vette of the same year with equal drivers. Not by much, but it should. It will still be heavier than the Vette (by a 100lbs or so), but it will have a manual and a decent suspension instead of an auto and a POS IRS.
That said, the '98-'00 LS1 motors put out about 355bhp; the '01-'02(LS6 intake) but out about 370bhp.
Car weights, drivetrain choice, and driver skill others determines which LS1 is faster.

I don't know why you guys are so hard on the IRS. Granted, I'm not a big fan myself, but it does allow for better weight transfer, and they will usually 60 ft a little better than a solid axel on street tires.
