I raced a new eclipse
It is sad.....I think they weigh a little more than the new GT's. And they are the quintessential Jellybean machines......I don't care for the new look at all. Even with 265hp, FWD underneath that kind of weight isn't gonna make for impressive numbers IMO.
2006 Eclipse GT: 3480lbs, 263hp, 260lbs of tor. - FWD V6
2004 Mustang GT: 3347lbs. 260hp, 302lbs of tor. - RWD V8
Horsepower can make up for torque - just not when it's on a smaller block, heavier and by 3 ponies. Also, I hear that the gearing isn't the best in the world.

they are suppost to run 14.0 in the ¼. thats with a professional driver and the weather and altitude perfect. my friend an 06 eclipse (4banger) and they are slow as ****. no acceleration at all. i could beat them in reverse LOL
I didnt even think they had 263hp, makes me feel a lil better bout beating him cuz i thought they had less. Still wish i coulda caught him at the light, i prob woulda pulled away alot further. Not bad for a v6 i suppose
The 263hp is misleading. I'd be willing to bet that they put down considerably less than a 2V GT. Then you add their extra weight on top of that and it just gets slower. They are not anything close to a performance car off the lot. And I still haven't seen or heard of anyone modding one up impressively yet............but, give it time.
I just don't get why Mitsu had to make those things so damn BIG. I mean, a new Eclipse in the lightweight vein of the old 2nd gens with the new 6 cyl engine would have been kick@$$. I guess car makers have some unwritten rules about car design that we, the public, don't know about.

not to sound too much of a ricer, but if they made an AWD version with a fairly decent turbo it probably would have alot of ***** even with the extra weight... but then again every foriegn company is going that route now
