Question...
i guess the rules could be different everywheres you go. here in florida its 12.99 or under. the reason im certain of this, is because my buddy ran a 13.0 in his 01 trans am, and when we were all sittin around talking a couple of workers came by and told my buddy not to run any faster unless he has a helmet. the next run he ran a 12.8-12.9 (cant remember) and they kicked him out.
At my track at Cordova, Illinois they dont make you get a roll cage if your on the fringe of 13.5, but if you run like 13.4 or quicker consistantly they make you stop. They also dont requre helms or Long pants and you can even wear sandles if you REALLY want to (dont know why you would).
As for Verts they just make you have the top up other than that its the same as any other car.

So much bad info in this thread. If it is an NHRA track it HAS to conform to the NHRA rules, I don't care if it's in FLA. or AK. AS quoted directly from the NHRA rule book, which I have sitting in front of me.
As I said before, recently NHRA relaxed the roll bar rule to 11.50 for coupes and 13.50 for verts. While some tracks might be very lax on enforcing these rules I would never count on it, they can decide to enforce them at any time.
ROLL BAR:
Manditory in all cars running 11.00 (*7.00)t 11.99(*7.49), in convertibles running 11.00 (*7.00) to 13.99 (*8.49), and in all dune buggy type vehicles running 12.00 (*7.50) and slower.

Enforcement is often a matter of who is working at a track at any given time. My friend who was kicked out for running a low 13 in his convertible ran high 12's the week before with no problem. My g/f would run high 13's with no helmet, while her roomate ran mid 13's with no helmet. Another buddy of mine ran 11.17 @ 122 with no rollbar in his hardtop without a word from the safety techs. One of them even looked his car over and said "Wow, it doesn't look like an 11.1 car." He was allowed to compete in the street car final at the end of the night and won.

As for the subject at hand, all tracks must comfrom to the rules if they are under a sanction (NHRA/IHRA/SCCA) but they also have the option of "adding to". They can enforce safety requirements further if they want. As in the military we say, "can add to but not take away."
But both the NHRA and IHRA is as I stated above. Be aware that Convertibles must have at least a 4 point running 12.99 (1/4) or 8.49 (1/8). the 13 should be the NHRA book and is a typo and was recognized and has an amendment to it. Some track techs can be more assinine than others if you're not one of the Good ol' boys. I was a tech guy and used to be harder on the real racers and let alot of the street guys slide. Mainly because the streetcar guys we'ren't going as fast and I wasn't into the good ol' boy thing. My reply to them was "Do it right or don't do it at all". they would get pissed
A good tech will let a street runner slide but tell him what needs to be done the next time he comes back. 99% of the time it will be fixed come the next drag night. Unless it's a serious deficiancy.
