Roll races
Went down J. young after work las night to try and get a race. Id say i left about a 1/2 hour too late tho, because on the way out i see (in order) a 350z , jetta GLI, red supra w/ HIDs (pimmmp) and a stang.
I didnt see much after that and eventually hit a U to go back. Something comes flying up w/ one functional head light - so i get over to let the hoopty pass and its an X runner (i think toyota) . I heard they were decent and it looked pretty good - so i dropped from 4th to 3rd and gave him a couple jolts foward to see if he wanted to go. As soon as i did that i heard his engine start to wind up like hes gunna punch it and he does. I didnt even max 3rd and let off in 4th about 4-5 cars and he makes a left right after. Anyone know what hp #'s they make? It was weak but I had no1 else that wanted to play.
I had a better run Sat night w/ a clean lookin yellow kitted and rimmed up Dakota w/ exhaust, im sure it was a V8, but not an R/T - he stayed to my rear bumper through third and i pulled away in fourth, but i wouldnt mind driven that thing around
Not trying to rain on your parade but those X-Runners are soooooooo sloooooooooooooooow. ha ha ha. I work at a Toyota dealership as you probably know and I have driven quite a few of them. You mat them and it feel as if your just barely on the gas. ha ha ha.
Toyota had a good idea behind the X-Runner but horrible follow through. It was supposed to be competion for the Lightning at first. (you know a good looking sports truck that was quicker than an average truck) They put a 6 spd manuel tranny in them to give it more of a sport truck feel but didn't do anything with the engine. It's the same 6 cyl motor that is in the normal Tacoma and 4 Runner. Horrible follow thru. I think Toyota, in the end, decided since they weren't doing it with the Tundra that they would make it competition for the Ranger instead and thats why they left the engine crappy.

hmm..interesting.
i always thought that th x-runner was modified somehow...but i dont pay much mind to import trucks. the magazines always put them against the other sport trucks.
anyways, good kill on the toyota...and on the dakota...alot of the dakota RT guys debadge them, and some of them are VERY fast...ive seen them with very minor bolts ons running around the same times that you should be running, so they should be a good race. but be careful, there are alot of forced induction kits for them, and they can be pretty stout while still looking very plain.

Yeah one of my buddies had a Dakota RT and debadged it. He had the normal bolt-ons and had a Powerdyne S/C on it. Never saw it at the track but he swore up and down that it was a low 12 sec truck. Not tooo shabby I don't think.
I've had to learn that the hard way...
About 4 months ago I came to a stop light w/ a red R/T REDICULOUS exhaust not cat , supercharged for sure. i pulled hard up to the line messing around. he let it rip , nasty whine and exhaust - when the light went i stayed at his door and faded very quickly. When we got to the light I tried to get him to roll down his window to say good race but it was hard to talk above his idle. we went again out of 3rd and he walked away on me - when we were going it was open road w/ nothing along the sides but we ended up flying past a state trooper who had some1 pulled over. the cop watched us pass and i made a right at the next light and dipped out. that guy put the smack down and was easily running 12's or 11's.

I never compared it to the Lightning. I said originally that was Toyota's idea. Which it was. But then they decided not to. And comparing them to other trucks that aren't perfomance inspired trucks isn't the same class either. The Tacoma, the Frontier, Ranger, and S-10 are all in the same class. The X-Runner is kinda in the class of itself. Unless you count the STX Ranger or the Sport Ranger than I would say that might be competition.
Sorry I miss read your post there in regards to the Lightning. I also wasn't clear when I compared the X-Runner to those other trucks. What I should have been comparing was their engines I guess. You had said the X-Runner was so slow but when you compare the engine out put of those other vehicles it's right in line with the V6 in the X-Runner. You're right, the X-Runner doesn't really have any competition but to be honest the design makes sense. Most people who buy trucks never take them off road. Why not make something more road oriented.
