race him! people act like if you lose a race you get shot in the head. Have fun and when he talks trash that he beat you in a car that cost x2 as much as yours did, congratulate his checkbook on beating you.

the tranny everyone is talking about is the smg and ive seen those, along with a mildly modded m5 run extremely low twelves...
the m3 runnin low 12s was turbo'd, i would assume. a tricked out m5 MIGHT be able to do low 12s NA, but even then its a bit of a stretch without some drag-oriented suspension mods, which any true bmw fan would not touch

uhh the m3's have amazing suspension from the factory. they take off the line like a king. i wouldnt race him.

my buddy has a 97 m3 and lost to another kid at my school who has a 95 gt. however the stang was running full boltons, LT's, new racing cam, heads, and 125 shot.
an e36 m3 will run low-mid 14s (14.2-14.5). an e46 m3 (333hp, the one we are discussing) will run 13.4-13.6, as mentioned. a 97 m3 is e36 for the record...

reaper--a good driver takes .25-.30 seconds to shift, not 1-2. an auto tranny generally shifts in .15ish seconds. an smg tranny can shift as quickly as .08 seconds

to whoever said m3's have great suspensions--yes they do, but not for drag racing. i have extensive experience beating on e36 m's and they launch horribly IMO. they wheel hop badly, and it is very difficult to launch on the threshhold of traction because they want to either bog or spin em off the line. on a road course they are DEADLY, esp with some minor mods. i am not familiar with thrashing on newer models though, so i can't say how the e46 would do off the line

I say slap a set of slicks and 4:10 in the rear and go dust him.

he needs ALOT more then gears and slickers.
ummm, how sure are you about that? 4:10's and slicks is a completely different monster.
it would be a VERY close race with 4:10's and slicks

bullit---it depends on when they "end" the race...with 4.10s and slicks there is no question about who will have the advantage off the line, but m's have very good top end

My friends mom just bought a brand new M3 and when I get my mustang I was going to race him in a month (ohh I cant wait). These are my planned mods to do to a 99 Cobra Convertible so do you think I could take an M3 with this setup. (and yah I know this set up will probably cost 13K or more):

1.) Stage 1 turbo kit form Turbo charged power.
2.) UP and TB
3.) Forged rotating assembly from CHP (maybe a stroker kit for 5.0L's I just would like to find out some more info on it first.)
4.) Tremec TKO 600 .64 overdrive
5.) Full exhaust with LT headers
6.) Control arms with chassis stiffening
7.) new seats and
and depending on how well this works I might get CNC P&P heads and a stage 3 cam

P.S.= I already have the money for the car but I am still in high school and my parents wont't let me get one if I don't have good grades before I buy one. (A's and B's)
