Default Chevy Guys...Question...

To anybody who knows. What should I be expecting out of a 2003 Chevy Cavalier with stage2 cams, Custom Exhaust, Intake, CAI, and Stage1 Weight Reduction?? He says that he could give me(in my 6) a run for my money(figuratively, I think). What do you guys think?? If you Don't talk to the guy, you'd think he was RICE, b/c of his paint job, fartcan, and wing, BUT I did talk to him. He works at an Autozone down here and I was telling him about what I'm going to do to my Vette, b/c I was in there for parts for it and then we started talking about cars in general. Seems like he knows his SH IT!! But I think he may have played GT4 a little too much, haha.

Back on subject, though... Do you guys think I can beat him?? He has a manual transmission that he has blown 4 times since he bought the car(replaced all under warranty, lucky bastard).

I doubt he has anything beyond the CAI and Fartcan, the rest is most likely BS. The CAI might be worth a couple HP but the Fartcan is worthless.

Well I guess removing the spare tire, trunk carpet and floormats could be Stage 1 weight reduction.

As for the race my 2001 Cavalier Z24 has the 2.4 TC which is a little faster than the ECOTEC Cavalier and I ran a 15.1 @ 90mph with only a K&N filter.

There was a race video posted on here a while back with a V6 Mustang vs Cobalt. The Cobalt has the same ECOTEC engine as the Cavalier and the Cobalt won the race.

Do you know what year that Cobalt was? The 2005 model had a the same Hp with .2L bigger engine (ConceptCars.com). It weighed more as well. The 2006 model had the same engine but 5 more Hp and had a .1lb/Hp higher Weight/Power Ratio. My Stang has a 16.9 Weight/Power Ratio. We both have 5 speeds, though. The problem will come in the fact that he has a weight reduction and I have a 50+lb speaker bos in my trunk. I do have RWD though, so maybe I could win. I'll have to stop by and try and set-up a race with him at a track down here. Probably an 1/8th. 1) It's in the next town over & 2) I have about 60 more ft/lbs of torque than him so I should launch faster. Thanks for the input guys.

I was going to say that exact thing earlier this morning. But then I got distracted. Generally people that have cams don't call them STAGE X, or STAGE X weight reduction.

Yeah Sounded a little Gran Tourismo to me. That's how the game laid out the upgrades sometimes, haha. I'll talk him into a race at the Lakeland speedway after I go and run a base run. Maybe I'll take both of my cars out ther. Who knows.

I have just researched the specs on cars.com and i have to say i dont think you will have a problem. the 2006 cobalt ss(non-supercharged) has 171HP with 163TQ and a curb weight of 2,991lbs. You figure with a driver and his supposed (weight reduction) he is gonna be sitting at around 3120-3130?? You are gonna be around 3250lbs, so not that much more. I mean come on, you should have about 25 more horses and around 60 more lbs of TQ. you should be able to take him no problem. Just dont screw up by missing a shift, then he will have you, and then you just got owned by a cavalier, lol

I agree. I am a chevy guy and I couldn't answer my own question. I was just hoping some of those cobalt guys may have known a little more which cody did. Thanks Fallfast for the information. I'll definitely set something up with him. I'll have to see about running at the Lakeland 1/8th next weekend. The guy accross the street has a Civic (mini-minivan looking one) si that he says will own me. I told him I'd throw 2 Benjamins down on it. I have a little better driver mod than he does. I'm getting pretty good at driving this manual now that I've been doing for 6months. He is a truck driver, which is a little different then driving a small car. He said he wouldn't race me though. It would have to be his wife. Then I proceeded to call him out. I'll go get some baseline numbers at the track soon so I can stop Bench racing.

Does the guy have huge subs in the car? I talked to a guy last week who said he had all this weight reduction done but he has about 500 lbs of stereo equipment in the car LOL.
