(if needs moved please do, seemed like the place to ask though)

might remember my gf's brother was looking for a LS1 Trans Am

well, they got a '95 Formula with 40K for 6,200 ,, which IMO is a STEAL if its in good shape

its obviosly the 5.7 LT1 with an automatic..
i believe LT1's are 275 hp good for 14 flats to high 13's, GREAT races for a stock 99-04

so what is special about a formula?

and what is the likely outcome with my geared, partial exhaust, DR'd 99GT?
For that kind of money the car had better be perfect.

LT1 F-bodies are very cheap, now that the more desireable LS1's are commonly found for under $10k. It's not uncommon to get a decent LT1 with higher miles for $5k.

The LT1 Formulas were basically like they said, sort of a stripped Z or TA. But most still came w/ p/w/l. So they'll still be heavy. All the Formula was, was a TA suspension/engine package in a basic Firebird body. I beat one in my wifes Impala when it was mildly modded a fews years back. But it was also on the street from a dig.

Your Stang should get him only if he's all stock. If he has a good intake and LT's witha full exh, it'll be a struggle. Being a Formula, he may have got lucky and got the 3.42 or 3.73's in it. They actually did that "good thing" back then. If you can get the GU? off the SPID sticker, I'm sure one of us can tell you what gears he has.

I was not aware that 4th gen F-bodies were available from the factory with a gear ratio higher than 3.42. In fact, I thought the steepest gears an auto LT1 could get was 3.23. That's not the case?

It's a auto so the lowest gearing he could have from the factory is 3.23's....with 2.73's being standard, 3.42's are for sticks only

long story short, he had a new grand am gt, it got totaled by some STUPID teenage girl, and they got more out of it than what they paid

15 total i believe
the car is 6,200+title, tax..blah.. leaves about 7K he can play with (pending parental approval first)

i know its kind of off topic still, but LT1 guys,

what are the best normal mods (ie: nothing HUGE) for the auto LT1?
also, he is hoping to have the soon to be his car sound similar to my o/r H Stinger combo...

what is a good sounding exhaust combo? prices...what does it take to make it true duals if it isnt already?

just some questions im asking for him on here (of all places..lol)
thanks a ton guys, later

If he gets an auto, tell him to rip out the stock gears and put in some 3.42s. He needs a CAI, fully-opened up exhaust, 160 T-stat, and a tune. A stall (at least 3200) and DRs should be gotten, also. Those mods should have him knocking on 12s.
