Killed a Cobolt SS/SC
from what i see it looks like you may have 3.31 stock...
and yeah youll prolly be fine with 3.73.
if your really worried about it... try and find someone who changed their gear ratio on a v6 and see what they say.

That happened to me once when I redlined my car the day after I bought it. I was at a light and I took off and gunned it, and hit the rev limiter it was like it stuck and you had to hold the clutch in and let the RPMs go down because if you shift into second the rev limiter stuck at 6500. I've seen a lot of people do that and it seems because they are trying to shift right at the redline instead before the redline. It seems most of the people who own a Cobalt SS/SC are very inexperienced at driving and complete douchebags about things which give the car a bad name and is why I am trying to get rid of mine. Around where I am at I was the only one who had one and now 2 or 3 are around and they are kids that just turned 16 and mom and dad bought it for them and they can't drive worth a damn. I will say though GM does under-rate there cars but this car is no-way 30 HP under-rated. maybe 10-15 under-rated but not 30. I have seen some dyno 215 or 220 stock.
v6mustangknight, I would recommend that you get 4.10's. The 4.10's aren't going to make much of a difference in gas milage. On a V8, people might lose 1 or 2 miles per gallon, on a V6 you will hardly lose that if any. Yes, you will lose top speed, but what do you need to go that fast for? I've gone 140mph with my stang with the 4.10's and I could have gone faster, I just backed down because I was afraid I might kill myself. Trust me it was not fun, and I dunno if I ever want to try to peg my speedometer again. The 4.10's will make your car feel like a whole new car, don't get 3.73's and regret not going bigger.
so much bad information here. 4.10s will not make u lose ur top speed, nor will it severely decrease ur gas mileage. unless you have a lead foot. you have 3.31s now, and ur only going to a measly 3.73's, thats a waste of money. get 4.10s or 4.30's. 4.10s are fine for daily drivin. come to the 6 cyl or 4.6 forums about gears. you will get much better educated people on here about gears than that newbie guy.
this thread is stupid, nothing on it is factual unless some facts snuck in after the "gears will lower your top end" part, but I didn't get that far before puking.
while true for most of the older muscle cars, it's not true for motors that generate power in the higher rpms.

+1 its a good way to confuse a nwcomer like you knight, but u have a v6 so either with a manual or automatic, 4.10s is the way to go. like i said, going from 3.31 to 3.73 is just wasting 500 bucks.
well, im getting alot of crap from my friend about how 4.10s is a big jump and i'm gonna lost alot of MPG because of that.....so can someone explain to me if what i'll gain and lose from getting 4.10 gears?
