This morning 6:30am while headed off to work (yes I work on Sat) im crusing early down the boulevard taking my sweet time. Just ahead I notice a RED VETTE (always red around here for some reason) and a SUPRA(white) I think to myself..I dont need this..this Vettes going to mess with me and I dont feel like getting spanked this morning. But the vette pulls off the street a few 100yrs down. So im left with the SUPRA. Now im thinking I shouldnt be racing this morning(short on fuel) but if he brings it, Ill go. He brought it! The SUPRA slows down to wait for me..I come up on his right and pass him moving directly infront of him (far left lane) because I plan on making a left turn soon( a 6 lane boulevard..3 in each direction)...he moves up close behind me and then speeds up changing lanes, positioning himself on MY right side. We stop at the next light. Obviously by his previous jocking for position he is planning on racing. Early morning nobody insight..I say to myself "HERE WE GO" The light goes GREEN and Im on it..slight chirp of the tires ..good launch.I pull on him thru 1st..slam into 2nd and glance in my rearview (he's not there) still I feel Im holding a 1/2 car length.. at the top of second gear I see his white fin in my rearview mirror (im feeling good).. I shift into 3rd and seem to catch more of his car in my rearview (now im feeling great)...this is when I choke...I believe I shifted too quickly into 4th (should have rode out 3rd longer)..becasue the car goes NOWHERE....At about this time I catch the WHITE SUPRA filling up my passenger side window..it takes all of about 4 full seconds for him to pass me ( i know because as im writing this, im replaying it in my mine..yep about 4 seconds)..As he screams by me I let off the throttle and start to realize that I have lost this race. He changes lanes and moves directly infront of me..I can smell the fumes from his car..IT STANK. The smell was a mixture of fuel/plastic/sort-of electrical. I could smell it because yes..both my windows were down (so much for areo-dynamics) Why were my windows down you ask? tinted to dark..two fix it tickets already..Anyways... So im thinking to myself..Yeah you lost ..but his car must have worked real hard for it to be smelling like that. As he pulls up to the red light ahead and stops..im thinking he's going to be an *** about it..but no.. as I pull up he looks over and gives me the thumbs up and smiles..i think to myself "COOL"..throw him a thumb and head off to work..thinking about my beating the whole day.. Well maybe not the whole day.

I have no idea how fast we were going or how close I was to red-lining thru the gears, because I feel and hear the car scream as I drive and i have confidence in my driving/shifting skills.. Well my touch was WAY-OFF this morning. Oh well!

Ugh, theres never really anything on the streets up where I live to race.
Nowhere to really do it either.
And I'm never on the highway

good race, but dontcha think even if you did shift too soon, your discription of you going no where, he could have used nitrous... even if u shifted a little early he wouldn't have beat you but then yet supras are known for their better top speed, good race and i'm glad there are people out their that are nice when you're beat or when u win.

 

good race man, too bad for us, we can't win em all. Supras are truly import beast and a good match for well kept mustangs. Like Red said, they are known to pull good at higher speeds thanks to their turboed drive train. That smell could might have been his nitrous if he was desperate enough to let into to it on an early morning street race. Nice to know he was cool about it though I hate ******.

wait a minute. what model supra was this? was it the f&f orange crap supra or was it one of the older models. do tell.

 

I have no idea what type of SUPRA it was..[sm=smiley24.gif] I know little if anything about SUPRAS..all I can tell you is it was a SUPRA and it was VERY NEW VERY CLEAN I would definetly say it was no more then a yr or two old. Ive seen a few of them around here (CEN-CAL) Not driven by the typical asian..This guy was a 30'ish white dude(preppy looking). Definetly a newer yr tho. Sorry[sm=smiley24.gif]

Well for one it may have looked new but they stopped producing Supras (at least in the states) in 1998. So it's at least 6 yrs old thus far...

There's a few of these running around my City, although I don't think they're the turbo model.

i have to wonder if it was a turbo model now. the na model came with 225 hp and are actually faster than the tt 320 hp (rz) models. good fun either way.
