5.0 vs 4.6
look at it this way , the 4.6L is some motor made up to be cost effective and be able to be put in a LOT of differnt fords are mercurys. the 302 is purpose built to be POWER like the LS1. or maybe iam wrong.
most of the advantages of the 4.6 have little to do with performance and more to do with realibility and environmental cleanliness. that's why the have the hypereutectic pistons, very tight clearances, and other crap I can't remember at the moment. I assume you don't give a rat's *** about pollution if you are modding the car heavily. go with a 5.0 if you want to mod. daily driver, I'd go with a 4.6 cause chances are pretty good it will last for more miles.

liek most threads usually boil down to,,,,it all depends on your expectations, your goals, and what you like
i'd take almost anything over a 96-98 GT motor,
99-04 GT 4.6s are alright
96-98 Cobra 4.6's are pretty good
99,01 Cobra,03-04 Mach 1's are pretty nasty motors
while a 03-04 Cobra 4.6 (with its standard 'equipment') is just evil
same story for 5.0's...
anything from about 71-84 that said 5.0 was a pig stock
but the 5.0 you hear about all the time (85,86 carbed or 87-95 elec. fuel injected) is an unbelievable platform with limitless possibilities
stock to stock though, any 4.6 after 98 (plus the 96-98 Cobra) is gonna whoop a 5.0 pretty good
in all, i would pick any 4.6 after 98 over all but 1 5.0.......and that happens to be the one they call the BOSS

besides the fact its a completely different motor
the 5.0 is torquier, easier to mod (fully forged internals), pushrod power, etc. you didn't specify which 4.6 (2v, 3v, or 4v). all things being equal, 5.0>4.6; if they made a 5.0 today it would PWN the 4.6's. but since the motors were made in 2 completely technically differing points in time, the newer 4.6's have the edge in HP.

i was just trying to give a very brief view for him
If I had loads of money to build up, I would probably buy a 5.0 (or something bigger) over the 4.6 like everyone has said, sure
(and this is opinion, but i think a stock 4.6 with exhaust sounds better than a 5.0 with exhaust....but this might be just because 99% of 5.0's have Flows)..

sound wise, the 4.6's DO sound better than a 5.0 with full exhaust on both vehicles, but, once u start modding, the 5.0 is just the king. the 4.6's are made for reliability and civility, blah blah blah. all the boring sh*t....well, 'cept for the 4-valves
so, for me, 5.0 all the way.

Hmmmm, lets see:
In addition to having more displacement, the 5.0 is cheaper and easier to mod. If you were going to build a motor for about 425-450hp for the least amount of money, the 5.0 is the way to go.
On the other hand, the 4.6 has much better heads and will produce more HP per cubic inch because of them, expecially on the DOHC engines. They are also more fuel efficient and the blocks are MUCH stronger! The crank on the 302 is held in place by two or four bolt mains and the stock block can only handle 425-450HP safely. The block on the 4.6 DOHC has six bolt mains and the crankshaft actually passes through the block itself, making for a much stronger engine that can easily handle 600-650HP or more (though not with the stock internals, unless you're talking about an 03-04 Cobra 4.6...).
As one who's owned both new, I'll take the 4.6 DOHC any day over any original-equipment 302 ever built...

The 4.6 just replaced what the 302 was in originally...
What are you saying[&:]

i dont consider that a 5.0. i consider it a 302
