Comming home at around 1:00AM tonight, i'm cruising in my 91 LX 4cyl at like 40 mph with 2 cars in front of me.
Let's say a Grand Marquise in front of me, and a celica with an overly large metal wing sticking off the back of it in front in the right lane.
I then notice some lights comming sorta fast in the same lane as the celica, only to slow down right behind him and pass the marquise to find himself a red light.
So I see the back of the car and recognize it as a mid 90's accord.
The accord just starts revving like mad with the celica right next to it, only for him to respond back with a weird combination of revving and inching forward.
Like he was holding his brakes while giving it gas. Doesnt work too well on a front wheel drive car.

Welp so I'm like ok, I gotta see this so I pull beside the Grand Marquise and watchem do their thing.

It was a 3 lane red light and the left lane turn signal turned green and the celica almost took off. It then backed up a tiny bit and continued its revving, same with the accord.

The light finally turns green and I hear both of their horrid sounding exhausts get louder, but not one of them even came remotely close to squeeling their tires.
They take off and I follow slamming on the gas so I can atleast watch the race.
Now knowing how horridly slow the 4Cylinder Mustang LX AUTO's were... I thought theyed be out of sight and over the hill in a couple seconds.

That wasn't the case at all...

I stayed right with them, right behind the celica wondering why the hell they arnt moving too fast.
I'm not riding his ***, but within watching distance and they both kind of stay lane to lane with the accord slightly pulling on the celica.

They get to the next red light and the accord gets in the far left lane and just turns left off the main road and it was done.

But I'm wondering why my 91 LX even stayed within range of those two cars.
Yes I know they're both slow but NOT LX 4cyl Auto slow...
My car has like 100hp at the fly and weighs in around 2800-3000lbs not to mention the autos are just horrid in my car.

Or I guess maybe they were both really really crappy drivers and couldnt pull away from my 20 second car...
Anyways the Accord barely gets the kill and then takes off.

was it a new model Celica? the GTs are like high 16 second cars... the GTS models are like low 15s high high 14 second cars...

 

they were ricers... ha ha ha (once again, no offense 2000Si)

 

Man what an exciting race, too bad you didnt have the video with you so we could watch those awesome monsters running! Just imagine if they had like 4 or 7 more horsepower they could break into the 16's and really be runnin hard yo....

 

yea it was a newer model celica, dont know exactly what model.
But it was either black or dark blueish, if that matters(dunno if certain models only came in certain colors)

But all I know is that they could barely pull on a ****ty 4 bangin mustang auto...


Yea, I really want to get a camera... just too much stupid **** not getting video taped

its not? I thought that was a good 1/8 mile time, since the kids down here think that is screaming fast and can whup any Camaro or Stang...

Wasn't there a 4 Cyl. turbo stang? I think it was an SVO or something but not sure. I heard of some of those being quick for a 4 banger.

 

yea the SVO's (turbo 4 cyl) supposedly ran next to the stock 5.0's of the same years, but ive never witnessed this personally, or even seen an SVO in person for that matter....
