I was doing 130 on a empty bridge today.. wanted to see how powerful my car really was
... and it felt like i wasb arely doing 100... but most people would rather the GT because of the "it" factor... Like I said in other posts.. 2 parking lots, 1 with a z06, other with a GT.. most people will go look at the GT, because to most people the vette looks like every other vette they see...

haha... but non cars people won't notice it... lol.. perfect example.. my older sister who knows nothing about cars called me and asked me what was this car that had a Ford symbol but looked like a Ferrari, haha... she just said she stared at it... we saw a C5 z06 (not as impressive, but still) and i was like ahh check that sh*t out, and shes like I see those stupid things everywhere what's the big deal? lol

Your right, whether it's a Z06 or C6 the tail light and exhaust looks the same. You have to have a faster car to pull ahead to actually notice a difference.

why does everybody want the GT over the Z06. ITS OVERPRICED AND OVERRATED. $150k, 550hp. yes, it does play homage to the REAL GT40, and i respect that, but, $80k for a Z06, with a tune, and a cold-air kit, you walk a GT. saw the video. posted on this forum somewhere. im sorry, but, Z06 for me. f**k the GT
ORIGINAL: stanger88
I owuld take the Vette. I couldnt stand to garage queen her and thats what the GT is compared to the Z06. It has almost NO ground clearance. have you seen one in person? I do think its awesome appearance wise though, no argument there at all.

Id DEFINETY take the GT over the Z06. The Z06 might be as fast, but the GT looks better, and plus, its a FORD.

The GT will outrun the Z from 0-100-0 by OVER A SECOND. Not to mention the extreme ease you can upgrade the car. Theres a guy with a pulley and a tune making 100 more WHP!
Imagine what a exhaust/pulley/tune/CAI will do on a GT. Hell, Ford offers exhaust and install on the GT already (guy on the STL forums had pictures from the dealer he worked at doing it). Your talking 600~ WHP on a car that still runs and drives like stock, and doesn't need a wild aftermarket cam.

Uh huh, and a tune and a pulley and you say bye bye to the Z. You want to talk about easy to upgrade, its 03/04 cobra all over again, except it weighs way less and it looks/handles much better, and is much faster stock.

but, which one gets better gas mileage ??? huh ?? kidding. who cares about gas mileage in EITHER of those cars
From what I have seen on magazine racks (closest i will ever get to driving a GT) the Z will acutally hang on a road course, but I have a hard time seeing that.
I think it was R&T that I was looking at, and the Z was like .3 seconds faster around this track. The only problem I had with that was they had the new viper clocking the exact same time, and I cannot see the viper hanging with either of them on a road course, which kinda throws some doubt into the mix about the whole thing being BS.
For me though, handling is just not my thing. its nice, but I would rather have all out accleration than handling and accleration. Not 1 member in 100 on this forum would have the nuts to take either one of these cars all the way to the handling limit on a track, much less the street, so whats the big deal? On the other hand, I don't think any of us have a problem drag racing the hell out of it.
Regardless, I am in the same boat as you. I'm not about to spend 80K or 150+K on a car when my house cost 107,500
I would much rather have a nice fat 401K account going at 25 years old, and early retirement from hell.... I mean work.

That's what you get for reading it in a magazine, and actually believing it!! haha you know better then that!!!!!! lol. That's like the Ford guys at the dealer when I worked there, said they had a lightning and a z06 go around the track, and the lightning caught up in the turns, and the vette left in the straightaways.. I think they forgot to tell us that the vette was actually lapping the lightning, hahaha

wow....Viper on par with the Z....i dont think so. thats why i like the PERFORMANCE magazines, instead of the "everything auto" magazines. those boys cant drive. "our magazine boys" can. most of the time.
but youre right about pushing the cars to the limits. especially on the street. and yes, we would ALL be MORE THAN WILLING to drag race 'em. that would be a BLAST.

I doubt that. Like I have said before it is a drivers race between a Z06 and a Ford GT. I stopped reading magazines once I saw that Car and Driver did a best 12.0 in the 1/4 with it. One thing is for sure the aftermarket for the Z06 is much more promising since it puts up these numbers N/A.

The aftermarket is strong for the GT (and the 03/04 cobra) precisly because it comes with a factory supercharger. Everyone talks like this is a bad thing, but its the best part.
Not only does it come with factory cams/heads/shortblock etc that are specifically setup for boost (and more of it than stock) but more horsepower is as easy as a pulley swap and a tune.
Look at the 03/04 cobras. 650~ whp with just a KB swap, or 850+ with a turbo setup. Simply insane numbers for a completely stock factory engine with only 281 CI under the hood.
People are making 950+ WHP out of GT's already with TT setups. Show me a new Z making that. The aftermarket for the GT is simply insane. This isn't even getting into the fact that it basically has the same setup as a lightning/GT500. Nothing like an supercar with a massive aftermarket fueled because there are so many other performance cars (trucks?) with the same basic setup (5.4 supercharged)
BTW, I have said it before, and I'll say it again...
You cannot honestly sit here and tell me that if someone came up and made you the offer than you could never sell either car for more than a dollar, but you could have either one for free, that you would take the vette. Money aside no sane person would have the Z in their driveway if the GT was an option.
This is not to say the Z isn't a great car. If the rules were the same but the choice was a new Viper or a GT500 I would definatly have a Z in the garage with the stock cam pulled out, and I bleed Ford blue. Its a great car, but its no GT
