Default question for WRXtransformed?

I was sitting at a light in the left turn laft and a solid black EVO whipped around the corner hanging a right, he pulled into the blockbuster and I got curious and pulled in to see what he had, he has a 06 lancer EVO MR with an intake and an exhaust with a self flash tune and 24PSI out of the stock turbo on stock block, and he claimed he ran 11.95.... does this sound accurate?

why I was asking is before I left he said stock boost is 20PSI for them and I really found it hard to believe a raise of 4 PSI, I/E, and a tune will turn 11's

don't know too much about them [&:]

I find it pretty hard to believe.

Stock boost on all STis is ~16.5psi I believe. 24psi is seriously pushing it on the stock turbo, although I think it's been done with meth injection. Most STi guys who break into the 11s are running larger aftermarket turbos, fuel systems, intercoolers, etc. I'm like 99% sure that with that guys mods he does not have enough power to run 11s.

If I had to guess, if he just road tuned it with no dyno himself, he's probably at around 300whp and very dangerously lean. Dyno tuned STis with the stock turbo, intake and exhaust can hit around 320whp or so on an aggressive tune while still staying safe.... and that's not enough to run 11s, unless you're an EXTREMELY good driver and don't give a **** about your axles/drivetrain.

yeah. it was an EVO MR though... I corrected myself, I keep getting them confused because they are like exactly alike, but everything should be the same still right?
I heard they had the same stuffins

Ok, I did a little more research, and I was a little inaccurate on the stock turbo times (I'm not familiar with the VF39 because I've never used it... too small IMO! lol)

The guys seeing 300+ on the stock turbo, with that much boost, are absolutely running methanol injection. Without meth, I think 300whp is seriously pushing it as far as safety goes. One example quoted from NASIOC:

"Finally got my meth setup dynod - stock turbo 320whp/376wtq
2day my car got a refresher tune for the shooutout. i wasnt there and the sheet is still in my car @ mspt, but my car made 320whp/376wtq. this was on www.pampenamotorsports.com 's dynojet dyno. my car stock there made 230/230, and 239/237 after the ecu relearned post battery reset. 241/245 w/ just a k&n, and on pump gas + ~19psi = 295/332. now the car is @ ~22psi.

this space reserved for sheet.

mods that matter;

stock vf39
stock clutch
11lb helper spring
gtspec headers
gtspec uppipe
helix dp
k&n intake
txs fmic
txs r34 bov
smc meth kit 50/50
walboro fp
ecutek tuned by dave@mspt

i predicted 330/370 so im pretty satisfied. the car is still to rich, i dont know if its my meth or what. but i think the car still has a lot left in it. we are @ a very conservative 11.0 afr, would love to push it to 11.5 or better."

See all the extra mods this guy is using. If that guy you met was serious, and that's all the mods he has, his next quarter mile run could be the most glorious explosion of his car he will ever experience.

Ohhhh okay. Nah they're actually really different... the 4g63 is an awesome motor in the EVO. You can get a lot more power out of it safely.

I have no clue if that guy was bsing you or not. A friend of mine has an MR, and he has an intake, full catless exhaust, manual boost controller, cams, and a custom tune from Shiv @ Vishnu. On race gas he put down about 340whp, and that car felt fast. He raced some guy he worked with's Camaro at the strip because the guy wouldn't stop talking ****. The Camaro ran a 13.5 something, my friend ran a 12.2 with a slipping clutch

funny you should say that about blowing up, the reason he whipped into the blockbuster is because4 he said he ran a dodge ram SRT-10 and flew passed him like nothing and said he was cooling down, and I asked him "after 1 run?" and I diddn't follow him untill he showed me just in front of the engine and it was glowing like a dusk sunset... I was like HOLY ****!
the thing that was glowing looked like a metal tube going from the engine to the intercooler
it might have been the snail itself... I couldn't get a good look but it was bright orange

Ow that's not good lol. At first thought I thought it was his turbo when you said that, because my turbo will glow bright red too if I've been pushing it really hard for a while. Nothing to be concerned about though..... but if it was his intercooler piping that can't be good! [sm=noooo.gif]

then it was the turbo itself... I diddn't really get a good look, I just thought the turbo sat off the the side so I assumed it was something else and it looked like a tube... it was right in front of the block just under the ledge of it, you have to get down a peek at it a bit

Was it where the turbo is at on that picture, like the lower right?
