Hey guys, if you want to keep quoting websites and Magazines for 1/4 and 0-60 times, look up a 79 301 4v 4spd Formula. That is what my VIN says. It runs in the 11's, and I can post pics of timeslips and video of it... Whos to say it still has the 301 in it? Just because some website has a time, doesnt mean its that for ever car.

Also as far as shift lights go, do you think a NASCAR Winston Cup driver wants this light staring him in the face as he is goin around the track? On the big ones they dont even shift, on smaller tracks like Dover they may shift once. Doubtful but they might.

Drag Racers use a shift light because we need to shift at exactly the same time each time. Its not peak anything, its simply where the car runs best. I know my cars torque peaks out about 2500-3000 rpm, I sure as hell wont shift there. A light is easier to see because you dont have to focus on the tach. If you think Drag Racing on a real track doesnt take skill and a decent driver, then you simply have never gone fast enough to need any skill. Ever been sideways at 100+ mph with wrinklewall slicks because one tire got wet from some slower car puking coolant on the track? When the guy at the line sees your door handle, you are crossed up. No it wont happen to a 240 hpAccord or Mustang, but plenty of other things can happen.

My car doesnt have a shift light, I use the factory tach in the dash. I only need 5800 rpm anyway, it goes to 6500. Drag Racing is done on a track, Street racing isnt. I have done both, and anything over the posted speedlimit is usually ludicrous, its there for a reason. If you want to race some kid in his car, at least dont have anyone in the car with you, nobody with him, and find a secluded spot with no traffic or driveways. OH and keep everyone behind the cars when they take off. I have almost run over a few of my friends when my car spun hard off the line and went sideways, I mean really sideways, like at times one tire in the ditch, and or most of my car in his lane. I was lucky, and if you think I cant drive, then just stop on by and Ill give you a ride in a quick car. 11's arent really that fast, but they arent exactly safe either. Not like 14's or slower. Im done preachin now....

they shift on restarts, once they get into 4th they stay there, only shift at pocono, cuz there is such a long straitaway and a little one, so 4th is like od and they use 3rd quite a bit, and they shift on the two road courses, thats it

Watch the telemetry next time its on the screen, it may only drop about 2000 rpm. No need to shift. Yes they have 4 speeds in them, You cant accelerate those cars as quick as they do without them. Most will run low 12's or high 11's with 2.73 gears. But they will watch the tach as they run through the gears. After they are up to speed, its not as important. At the Glen they are shifting constantly, its a road course. No other way to do it.

As far as listening to the engine to know when to shift, well its not entirely accurate, who knows when you are shifting, it could be too early, it could be too late. Of course too late is the rev limiter on the newer cars like yours. If you want to race, then you want the best run each and every time you run it, right? Get a tach, experiment with shift points and see where it runs fastest. There is no other way to do it. Watching the tach is an easy way to drop time off someones best especially in a stick car. My buds are usually .01-.2 behind my timesin THIER car at the track. So it all depends. Believe me, the only cars that can run really fast in first gear are powered by Hemi's sucking down nitromethane in gallons per second volumes. Can you say 0-320 in 4.5 seconds? They have direct drive, no transmission. Nascar has 4 spds. Its just different ways to do things, because its different racing.

Well, I guess its my turn Theres no way that a v6 stang can beat a v6 accord with a stick. It might have been automatic and the dude was racing so he was more then likely manually dropping the handle into each gear. I know when I had my 72 chevelle and 63 chevy2(both autos) I would manually use the auto. Better performance. I had stage 2 shift kit in the chevelle and stage 1 in the chevy2 so that made a huge difference. All I know is that v6 stangs shouldnt be raced. They should be looked at and loved because theyre soooo purdy. Dont get me wrong. There are highly modded v6s that smoke most cars on the road. Theyre kinda rare though. Psssst. Nascars have shiftlights on the tachs btw. I own "Days of Thunder" LOL. I have to add the word " s**t " too, because everyone else is cursing and I dont wanna feel left out. Grats on yer kill btw. Its completely stupid to street race. But to each their own. Some people have to learn the hard way for things to sink in. I know I did.

I guess shifting isn't for nacar they mostly can only turn left..when on the road corses they look like a bunch of women drivers*L*...if you know your car and engine you don't really need a tach...it;s done by feel and sound I can shift my car with a 100 rpm to where I need to I use my tach to check myself,,,it you see the shiftlight your late shifting anyways

I may be wrong, but I think the debate was over if they had shift lights?
