Evolution!
Well, I know this guy who has a Mitsu Lancer Ralliart, who is always talking about how his car kills Z28s and Mustangs all day long. So I asked if he wanted to run my stock Z28 (it basically is: gears and a flowcrap) and he said sure. So we set it up for when I got off work, but later on in the day he tells me that his buddy has an Evo and asks if he can use it.
I say, not really believing him, sure why not? Well, he never turns up, but I go to his house the next day and lo and behold an Silver Evo is sitting in his yard. Well, I get out and start talking and the Evo guy keeps telling me that my car doesn't have a chance against his Evo.
Anyway, I get him to take me for a ride and a drive: The little car was awesome. It moves pretty darned fast, is easy to launch, and feels solid; but it only felt quick. And the BOV sounded horrible, like the tranny was getting grinded. Well the Evo is capable of getting up to 120 on a this particular road. So back to my Z28 and we go for a spin; well, I buried fifth--140mph on the same road. And do you know what Evo guy said?
He said: "Well, you should've have any trouble with the Ralliart." Gee, I didn't know that. But later on, Evo guy confided to his friend that he didn't want none, but they have a friend with an apparently street-driven 8-second Mustang that they think I should race. And neither of them believe my car is stock. Funny ricers.
But, given the money an Evo is definitely a performance car I would love to own (as long as I already had a Camaro) and one I would go in debt for (right after my '10 SS Camaro).
Anywayz, sorry for the long post, especially since there wasn't a really a race.
PS: Evo guy wrecked the Evo the other day 'drifting around a turn at 120', but was lucky and only tore off the front bumper...

Even if that Evo is stock it may be faster than your Z28 and mine. I raced a stocker that ran 13.44 and they can run faster than that if driven well, 13.2 or so.
After a few mods the same Evo ran 12.5.

Id rather have a STI, how much boost does an evo come with stock?

I am not sure what the stock boost is, but I am not sure how that matters.

I agree. If both are driven by competent drivers, it's a driver's race all the way.
That dude is pretty misinformed if he let your reaching a higher speed on a given road scare him off, unless you were planning to run the cars until they both reached max speed on a highway. Neither of your cars is going to see 120, let alone 140 in a 1/4 mile race.

I'm pretty sure the Evo's came with 19 pounds stock. Even with your mods you will probably get ripped. Now from a role it'll be closer
I hate stupid people who wreck nice cars. I wish that **** would've flipped over so he'll have to drive a tricycle after that[:@]

Stock EVO's come with about 19 - 21 pds of boost but taper down to about 17 - 19psi. This is from 2003 - 2006. Just to give you an idea about the difference in feel, when my EVO was closer to stock it didn't feel that fast from a roll compared to mustangs or vettes. There's probably several reasons for this:
- The EVO was actually slower from a roll (< Most likely)
- I was use to the power in the EVO so it didn't feel as fast
- The AWD pull feels different from a RWD pull (< Second most likely) Powerful RWD cars scare me especially when there fish-tailing down the road! With AWD, your generally not fish-tailing down he road after hitting the gas hard!
Here's my prediction if you would have raced:
- (Dig) EVO front half, you catching up, but a close race to the end.
- (Role) You would have won.
This is considering the EVO was stock. Also, by the way he reacted after riding in your car, I'm sure he was stock.
Just my 2cts..
