dont just stomp the gas or you wont go anyways. THe best way is to hold the break and the gas together, kinda light on the brakes though.. hold it just to that point where you can feel the tires moving a bit.... when the light goes green dump the brake, then get on the gas more. It will roll you into it a bit so you dont spin as much.

Or get stickier tires and a stall.. same effect just a higher launch.

Auto GT's really dont have THAT much power. My friend could floor his 03 GT from a stand still and dead hook. he was stock.

Its not the power as much as the stock converter(1800 stall). Autos just need to launch higher and will get way better times. If u race a stock 99-04 gt (DR's)manual vs auto (auto with a stock 3K stall) the auto will be even every time or even win. Thats a fact. The converter holds autos back.

I'm new to the lingo. What does 3200 stall mean? Lowering tire pressure is a good idea, btw. I didn't think of that.

the auto tranny is almost near the same power as the 5spd..it doesnt spin much because it is starting off in a low rpm...its like if u punched a 5spd without reving it,, you would get the same results..

A stall converter is a device that transfers the motion of the engine to the automatic transmission. The higher the difference between the speed of the engine and the speed of the auto, the more torque is multiplied. This is why an auto can get in motion from a dead stop even at idle.

However, stall converters are rated based on the point where the engine and the trans lock up, where they go at the same speed. Stock is 1800. An 1800 rpm difference is pretty good for normal driving. However, it also means you can't accelerate from a dead stop any higher than 1800 rpm. Swapping the converter for a 3200 means you can rev the engine up to 3200 at launch. That larger difference means more force is transferred from stop, better launch.

Exactly. Thats the main reason auto's normally run .2-.4 slower in the 1/4 than manuals. If they both launched at the same 3k+ rpm, shifts at the same rpm, it would be an even race or the auto would win as the shifts are dead on.
