Default First Time At Track

Well decided to go up to the local 1/8th track(Mooresville) today to see what I can run. My car is pretty much all stock with some 275/35/18s all around so I'm sure that slowed me down a bit. My 60' at first were straight up embarrassing at 2.7s[:'(] . Someone then suggested to lower the tire pressure and as soon as I did I cut about .5sec off my ET. It didn't help much that every time I raced there was always a fast car next to me. C6, 96-98 Cobra, and LS1 Camaro's seemed to always come beside me. I couldn't get a better launch than what I did and I tried every trick in the book. The track must have been prepped horribly but since this was my first time I have no way to tell.

60'= 2.294
E.T= 9.696
MPH= 74.381

Is this bad all things considered? What should a stock New Edge manual be pulling. Seems a bit like an excuse but do keep in mind I weigh about 280 lbs[]

that 74 trap is not good. that should be in the hi 70's. possibly even 80 would be nice. next time go out with some drag radials though, much more fun when u are not spinning.

well a 9.0 in the 1/8 is barely barely dipping into the 13's in 1/4. So with great traction and driving the **** out of it, its possible In perfect conditions. Your avg well driven new edge can hit a 14.2-14.3 with around a 2.0 60ft. You can do it, get that launch down/get some D/R's

My bolt on 99gt 5 speed, running 8.80's never hit 80mph. Lets remember that your car is quite a bit faster up top than the 2v 4.6

Well the Cobra ran a 9.304
The C6 ran a 8.446

Yea I'm definitely going to need some DR's soon. On the street I hook up good but on that damn POS track[:@]

Any suggestion on what size I should get along with some other el cheapo rims for them?

If ur gonna run only at the track, get some Bfg or Mickey thompson drag radials. If you dont want to pay alot get some ****ty cheap 15's, and some 245/xx/15 tires.

PS you should be right on par with the Cobra

im just going by what most 99-04 GT trap in the 1/8th. 78-79 stock is reasonable. in the qtr that would 98-99.
so 74, i think there is alot of room for improvement. as that would only be 94-95 in the qtr

and yeah, mikey thompson drag radials on a spare set of rims.

Seems a bit slow for a new edge but that could have been based on several things (track prep,weather,inexperience). I trapped the same and ran just a bit slower my first time out to the track in my nearly stock fox gt 2.73's. I'm in the same boat as you man my 60's suck! im sure with more practice we'll both get better. my slip is below, mind you this is with 17inch cobra R's at 35psi and my only mod on my fox gt is CAI.

R/T 1.037
60' 2.486
330 6.543
1/8 9.844
mph 74.73
1000 12.817
1/4 15.294
mph 91.79

I respectfully disagree. Im not saying you dont know what your talking about but from what I've seen in the past 5 years, I cant see it. I race at a track that is 300ft above sea level. Me best friend has a 03 GTexhaust, his brother also has a 03 GT(stock). I had a 99GT(bolt-ons). All 5 speeds. I have seen countless other stangs at my 1/8 mile track. Stock will trap at 74-75. Decently modded(running in the 8's, mid-high13's in the 1/4) will trap right at or around 80. I ran a 8.86 @ 79.65 mph. Thats my fastest trap ever. Im just not seeing 80mph possible for stock or close to it. For a LT1, LS1, hell yea, but not for a 2v GT. Just not seeing it.

I raced, and beat, a 2000SS one time that trapped a 82.30mph(still got the slip). No way a stock GT could get close.
