Default a lesson in GM

ok, i dont know where to post this up. maybe the MODs will decide and move it - but it does have to do with the street/strip world, since i get spanked by these cars all the time. LOL.

I am a ford man - i know plenty about cars in general but i have to say, i dont know a DAMN thing about chevies. not even a little bit.

You guys talk about TA WS6s and sh*it. the LT1 engine, LS1??? no idea.

So what i would like is a lesson on GM models and engines - this wont require a lot of repsonses. im sure there are a ton of you who could give me the quick and dirty.

Thanks a lot for any help!!

pre 93...dont worry about them, they suck

93-97 F-bodies (camaro's and ta's with the V8) got an LT1 motor. Most dyno around mid 200's (230-265 is "normal" depending on state of tune and transmission for a stock LT1). THey ran around 13.8-14.4 @ 98-102 mph or so

A LIMITED RUN!!!!!!!! of LT4 F-bodies were made in 97' They put down around 320-340whp and dont worry, I doubt you ever see one.

98-00 F-bodies got the LS1 engine with the LS1 manifold and exhaust manifolds. They put down around 285-300whp on avg M6 tranny cars put closer to 300 and A4 closer to 285ish

01-02 F-bodies got LS1 engines with LS6 manifolds and exhaust manifolds and better flowing heads with a smaller cam...net hp gains? Around 10whp is teh accepted figure.

98-02 F-bodies run as fast as 12.8(rare as hell!) normal times are 13.1-13.7 with most cars running 13.2-13.4 with a good driver, reguardless of tranny. The 13.5-7 cars are A4 with 2.73 gears, but they are SICK from a roll. The A4 with 3.23's run mid/low 13's and the M6 cars well driver run low 13's/high 12's with a HELLA driver and a spot-on car and great track and all that. M6's trap 103-107 and A4 cars trap 102-105

FYI, my friend ran 12.9@107 in his bone stock 43K mile 98 WS.6 M6

Another guy I know ran 13.3@105 in a STOCK 98 Z28 A4 tranny car (it had a flowmaster...those ROB hp on these cars.) <his claime. I WATCHED! him run 13.1@104 on ET streets, so 13.3@105 is very fitting for street tires.Oh, this was with 113K miles on the car btw. Stock except the crapmaster muffler and the tires on the run I saw.

All figures lsited are for stock cars.

A stock T-top F-body will weigh 3350(stripper) to 3500. (my WS.6 verified weight was @ 3475 without me or gas in it, it weighed 3540 without me and with 3/4 tank of gas.)

93+ F-bodies will beat any mustang except terminators,Mach1's and 05+ GT's (96-98 cobras are a driver's race, the later model pre-terminators may have an edge)

A 98+ F-body will beat anything but a terminator and it will beat them if the driver is not on the ball with his launch and that IRS. Mach1's are a driver's race for a 98+ F-body with the F-body having a slight edge.

stock for stock, an 03-04 mach 1 has the potential to beat a 98+ F-body

and stock for stock 99-04 2v's have the potential to beat LT-1's

Stanger88 pretty much summarized it 100%. Except the fact that New Edge GTs(99-04) have and can beat a LT1 Stock for Stock. This is a complete drivers race.

Also 99/01 Cobras will beat a LT1 with a decent to good driver(talking about the Cobra driver).

The LT1 has an edge over the 99-04GT and the 99-01 cobra has an edge on the LT1, it DOES come down to driver in both cases though.

Yes I know this just wanted to point those 2 cases out though

Fair enough. To be dead honest, any manual tranny car within around 3mph trap and .5 seconds of another car is a driver's race from a stoplight to 60 or so.

Another guy I know ran 13.3@105 in a STOCK 98 Z28 A4 tranny car
My g/f did the same with her '01 (13.36 @ 105), 2.73 gears. She got a 2.0 60 ft which I was unable to match, hence the 13.52. Hers was a hardtop (I have t-tops).
