luckily, there was no early 2000s hemi durango...

i own two vehicles with 5.9s. one is my winter beater, and the other is the missus 94 ram. with very basic mods it ran 14.80s...and the engine is stock aside from a TB and headers. everything else from the intake manifold to the oil pan is stock. there is no "chip". he has to replace the whole computer, which i have done with ours. i suppose that he could have bought a computer, then bought a hand programmer and tinkering with things, but its not going to do enough to get him into the low 14s.

i dont recall what gears they came with, but it is probably something like a 3.55...

the curb weight on those is around 4500lbs, and her truck weighed in, right off the track, at 4351. he probably also has 4wd, which means more weight, and more drivetrain loss, although if properly used, it could give him an advantage in the launch.

in short, if i was out and about in my fiancees truck, and a durango with exhaust rolled up on me, unless i heard a whine i wouldnt even worry about launching hard (kenne bell makes blower kits for them, but ive only ever seen one) ...and your car should at least run 14.80s...although ive seen worse here.

smoke him.
My mom had an 01 Ram I believe was the year and it had the 5.9 in it, and it had an exhaust system, and my Dad raced me in it when I was in my Alero that ran high 15's to low 16's in the 1/4 mile, and I beat him by like 3 cars from 0 to 80. That truck was not that fast, now my mom has an 06 Ram w/Hemi and in my Celica GTS I beat her by about 1 car from 0 to 75. And the Celica is a 15 second car in the 1/4 mile. His is a basic Durango and its a 4x4. I'm pretty sure I could whoop him in the Stang, probably just catch him some time when I'm in the Celica, the odds we'll be alittle better for him.

Yes it was a 4x4, and I just found out that when I raced them in my Alero I had my custom header back exhaust, SRI and header. With those mods I was told I was more of a 15.4-15.6 second car in the 1/4 mile and when I raced a Mazda 6 with a 2.3 and 5spd, I won by about 2 cars.

yeah..the mazda 6's arent fast...

as for the ram, the 4wd models weigh quite a bit more...also, is it a quad cab? before we got her truck to the track, we raced it against my DD (which only runs 15.9s) and by 70, i couldnt read her plates...on the track she beat my DD by over a second...then i ran her in my white car and it was a different story...
