Default Gears?

I have a 93 Firebird Formula A4 and was wondering about gears, like what do I have, what could I get, and what would be the drawbacks to installing a more aggressive gear. Also, I have bigger tires in the rear than the front, would it be beneficial to go with smaller diameter tires?

You "should" have either 3.23s or 2.77s or something like that. Gears definitely help of Mustangs and I'm sure it's the same for F-bodies. A lot of auto stangs go with 4.10s so you'll probably go with something like that.

Depending on your driving habits they will lower it but they won't kill it. 1-2 mpg at most isn't a big deal

My gas mileage isn't much different around town, but it is noticeably worse on the highway.

You have either 2.73 gears like mine or the optional 3.23s. If you're turning 2000 rpm at 80 mph then you have 2.73s; higher rpm means 3.23 gears. I think the code on the door for 2.73s is GU2, I forget the code for 3.23s.

Thanks Tommy, I was spinning about 1800 rpms going 65-70, so...I assume I have the 3.23s. I think I'm just going to leave them alone, because I get great satisfaction when I get 29 mpg (well, the owner before me, but as soon as winter ends, its a road trip to figure out my mpg).

actually sounds like 2.73s, 3.42s are a nice upgrade for DD, i went with 3.73s behind my 700R4/4L60 (pretty much same thing) and well, sig explains it[8D]but thats because i dont get the ***** to the wall feeling that 4.10s would give or let me use the low end torque that 3.42s would of given me, well have to see when i get the cammed 350 in there in april
