I'm in the market for replacement rear tires....lookin at nitto 555R's. Just one thing that concerned me was what tire pressure would be the best as far as hookin up goes...

So basically, I made this thread for those of you that race frequently, would you please list your tire size/brand/etc and what tire pressure you use at the track (or wherever you are racing).

20 psi is good at the track on a street radial

track conditions play a role too

 

yeah, track prep is a big factor too I guess.

I've heard some ridiculous numbers (like low teens) for PSI and I thought wtf, unless they were for slicks.

 

Most people seem to run around 20 pounds with DRs.

Now with street tires the factory pressure is fine. I thought that lowered pressure helped until Dan04 showed me the light. At 25 pounds the last time my best 60' was 2.284.

This time even with the 4.10s the best was 2.08

 

M/T drag radials = 10 psi. BFG drag radials = 10 psi. Hoosier drag radials = 15 psi and 32 psi for street tires. That is how I run/ran.

 

I had 275/40/r17 nitto 555r's on my 04 cobra and ran them at 15-17psi. So high teens to mid teens for the nitto's.

 

My dad ran the nitto 555R's on his regal and didn't think they hooked good enough. He dropped the pressure into the mid teens. I run 225/50/16's on the SVO and drop the pressure to ~18psi. Best 60' yet is a 1.89. The little 4 banger doesn't make enough low down torque to spin them off the line.
