Racing a Classic

literally, there is nothing after 3rd gear, a C4 was the autos they used on 289 and 302s from the 60s, or pretty much all other ford small blocks from the time. they are 3 speed autos. to make it beat the rice there isnt much youve gotta do, our motors make a nice amount of torque stock, but there are a few thuings you can do for not too much cash that will give you even more of an advantage. get some gears, and a posi unit for your rear end (8" if its stock). 4.11 gears and a detroit locker or something (so you have power going to both wheel, not peg leggin like with the stock open rear end). the gears will give you a nice boost in acceleration and the posi unit will give you some traction. I have a 289, patriot tri y headers, new intake manifold (edelbrock RPM airgap), exhaust (got me some flowmasters
) new carburator, what code is your car? stock my car was a "C" code, which was a 289 with a 2 barrel carb, i swapped out the 2 barrel ,for a holley 650 cfm. and then for my auto i got a B&M shift kit, for more firm and positive shifts. ive yet to lose to the rice rockets at my school.

I can't wait to finish my '65 so that I can show my friends MR2 what a real car is. The bad thing is that my car is pretty much 1 of 3 GT's in my town, and I know the cop at my school pretty well (not because I'm in trouble all the time) so if somebody calls me in I'm done.
When I was younger, I raced my '66 coupe (289/auto/2.80:1 open 8") shown in my avatar (14.9xx et). Since then I swapped in a 8" 3.00:1 t-lock, but haven't raced it at the track. Now my track car is my '06 4.0L/5spd coupe - just waiting for good weather and a free weekend to hit the track. And my new V6 will be quicker than my old 289 (but I like driving the '66 more!)
