Default Racing a Classic

Do any of you guys use a classic mustang to race every now and then? I was just curious. I also wanted to know if anybody heard about that 17 year old that stole an '06 Mustang GT and was trying to evade the police in Idaho and Oregon? He was going 153 mph.

My friend has a 69 Mustang and he's gay. It seems like he never drives it. I tell him to take it to the track and he always turns me down.

I did get to race him with my car stock and beat him[8D]

I've driven our '72 a couple times on my own *the cars only picked up like 100 miles in two summers now* but I wouldnt have raced anyone even if I had the oppurtunity for 2 reasons....

1. I know its not fast
2. IF I had something go wrong, myself AND the car wouold have a worse chance of surviving the accident than I would in my new Stang.

My dad claims that after he gets the car running better, and has some other stuff *small stuff* done to it, that he would think about taking it down to Muncie to run the 1/4 mile, but I really doubt he would actully do it.

Most people who own just one classic car don't want to run the rist of wrecking it. I'd feel alot worse if I wrecked the Mach than I would if I wrecked the '99GT... just because the '99 is common, whereas the '72 is a special vehicle just because it's so old and neat to look at

My Uncle races the hell out of his 65 Convertible. The car is setup with a 302, 3000 stall and 4.11 gear. Very quick car light to light. It has made many a fast car look bad on the street. It just has nothing for them past 3rd gear. I'll see if he'll send me pictures of it to post. I think it's the coolest Convertible ever. No wire hubcaps or styled steel wheels for this pony. Draglites and MEAT!!!!

What do you mean by "It justhas nothing for them past 3rd gear."? I'd also like to know what mods he has on his 302, so I can show those rice grinders at school what's what when I finish my '65. Thanks for the replies guys.

The heads are junk on the car and it lays down once it needs the heads to breathe.I believe he just has the early hi-po heads on it and that isn't saying much. He's currently building a 351 windsor for it and will be putting a set of AFR 185's on it. It's pretty much just a stock early 302 non-roller motor with a cam, stall and 8inch rear with a posi. The car really gets offthe line, butlike is the case with his 69 Camaro, if the Camaro is within 2 lenghts and shifting to 3rd it'll run right by it like it's stuck to the road. Until then the Mustang looks like it's whoopin it's ***!!! It's just cool to see the car running around town. He beats on all his cars though. Between the 69 Dart GTS, 69 Camaro Z/28, 65 Mustang Conv, and 65 Nova he's pretty much my Hero. And those are just his cars he races. He's got a few others too.

I'm currently building a 66 Fairlane with a 396 FE to go after his Camaro. It's the fastest of his stable so that's what I'm going after. There is suppose to be a race setup in June up in his area so my brother and I are going up there with our Fords to take him on. My bro has a 550 rwp 429 4 speed 1970 Torino Covertible. A family that races together always has some cool stories to talk about.

literally, there is nothing after 3rd gear, a C4 was the autos they used on 289 and 302s from the 60s, or pretty much all other ford small blocks from the time. they are 3 speed autos. to make it beat the rice there isnt much youve gotta do, our motors make a nice amount of torque stock, but there are a few thuings you can do for not too much cash that will give you even more of an advantage. get some gears, and a posi unit for your rear end (8" if its stock). 4.11 gears and a detroit locker or something (so you have power going to both wheel, not peg leggin like with the stock open rear end). the gears will give you a nice boost in acceleration and the posi unit will give you some traction. I have a 289, patriot tri y headers, new intake manifold (edelbrock RPM airgap), exhaust (got me some flowmasters) new carburator, what code is your car? stock my car was a "C" code, which was a 289 with a 2 barrel carb, i swapped out the 2 barrel ,for a holley 650 cfm. and then for my auto i got a B&M shift kit, for more firm and positive shifts. ive yet to lose to the rice rockets at my school.
