from what i understand, the vipers arent much better from a dig than a stock IRS terminator is...which is why many people see so many vipers in the mid to high 12s for the non-srt models.

Everyone ive seen runs horribly at the track, but i think most of it is from people not knowing what they're driving... a lot more Terminators with stock IRS running what they're suppose to against the SRT10's... Not many of the Viper owners are drivers... they're mostly guys that have money that want a p*ssy magnet.

right...
i was at one of the VCOA shootouts two years ago, and it was pretty cool. they had a couple classes...like "mod viper", and they were all in the 9s and 8s, and stock viper, with cars running from low 13s to mid 11s. it was VERY funny watching them run...awful launches, quarter mile burnouts...but there were also guys driving stock GTS coupes into the deep 12s and SRT10s running mid 11s.
typically, when i pull into the beams against a pre-srt viper, i dont worry too much. if they drive it well, they will beat me, but from what ive seen, the odds are rare. however, there is a guy who runs in pittsburgh who has something like 5 or 6 vipers. he brought his red srt10 to the track last year and no one would pull into the lanes next to him, so i did. i talked to him for a while, and he told me that he had a collection of vipers, all raced. he was a younger guy, and several times he said "what good are they sitting in the garage"...because of the previous lanes having an uneven number of cars, i didnt run him, but instead, some kid in an orange faux-leen mustang. it looked like a gt with a body kit and bad interior upgrades. he talked like he was trying to be the token foolish white kid in a hip hop movie...going on about how he was gonna bitch slap this viper...because old guys in vipers cant drive.
the mustang ran a 13.0 something..the viper ran an 11.8 something..the mustang came down the return road, and straight out the front gates...

Now he had two things going for him...no passengers (add approx. 170 lbsfor me) ANDa definite jump but still! I couldn't believe how powerful his carwas. Extremely impressive. Inow know whohe his so hopefully I'm able to find his mods...if any. Either way I've suddenly been motivated topully the Cobra.
I can't go through another long silent ride home like that one.

No matter what kind of car you have, it is very difficult to make up ground on a car that has had a rolling start on you you. The Viper was already in it's passing gear and basically ready to keep going all the way up to 190+ or so. When your dealing with something that powerful, your only chance is to make him catch you....

I agree with ROTM... the car weighs 3400lbs - which is only about 200lbs lighter then you - and he's probably putting down mid 4's to the ground... which means you weigh more, and are about 50rwhp short... which doesn't bode well for you - for our cars to hang with the vipers, we really need the top end of 400rwhp...

I agree with ROTM... the car weighs 3400lbs - which is only about 200lbs lighter then you - and he's probably putting down mid 4's to the ground... which means you weigh more, and are about 50rwhp short... which doesn't bode well for you - for our cars to hang with the vipers, we really need the top end of 400rwhp...

while i dont question that your car is very strong, i dont think that 500whp would "embarass" a viper...beat, yes...but figure that it doesnt take much work for the viper to also have 500whp.
you would probably put a pretty nice beating to the average stock srt10 driver...but a really well driven srt10 might give you a run. the pre-srt10 models should be short work for you though.
