VHT...
I was talking to my dad the other day and he was telling me about how he used to put VHT on the tires of his chevelle before he went out to race on a weekend. Any of you guys ever tried this stuff? he said that it helps the car grip alot better and it launches off the line like a rocket.
Thanks,

It only works if you put it on the road and do a burnout in it. If you just put it on your tires it will pick up tons of dirt/dust/rocks etc and hurt traction. The full name is VHT Track Bite, VHT is the company that makes it. Most drag strips use it to prep the starting line.
I have used it on the street, but it is essentially useless to put on then drive around. I used to have a spray bottle with VHT in it...and I would spray a little on before i would run, but to apply it then drive around for a weekend, your tires would pick up every piece of road debris that you run over.
The last time that I used it, was when I got a flat DR, so I borrowed some regular tires, and per the instructions on the jug of VHT, we applied it to the car, and then pulled to the line and only spun the tires hard enough to clean the crap off, and they were still somewhat sticky...but i had only driven about an 8th of a mile before staging.

another problem is that it makes a MESS...if you get it on anything else...your hands..your fenders...your clothes...every piece of dust sticks to it, and it would turn hands black everywhere that it was on you, even if your hands didnt seem sticky.
i have heard of guys "curing" their tires with it..and i think that the big bottle of VHT mentions that...something about coating the tire, and letting it sit for so many hours...but its been years..

If you look at the roads in these vids you can see what a prepped road looks like. The VHT is put in a sprayer and layed down, then allowed to tack up, after that a small puddle is poured in front of the cars rear tires and the car does a burnout in the VHT.

we VHT'ed the slicks on my friends 10 second malibu last fall before he raced it on the street. it helps alot as long as you keep them decently clean. the more coats you put on, the longer it lasts, we had i think 3 coats on. VHT'ed tires + VHT'ed track= broken drivetrain parts if youre not careful.
