Default track "etiquette"

hey everybody, ive been to the local 1/8 mile track a few times but i was a spectator. we are nearing summer, and summer = mod fever so, i would like to start going to the track and get a few base times to see what i can gain from mods (gears, stall converter, etc). SO! uh...what do i do... is it necesary for me to do a burn out on my BF goodrich radial T/As? what light do i go on, ive heard it doesnt matter as long as you dont red light, or go on second yellow? i dont want to sound or look like a complete tool, but i have no clue what to do! my car is a 1965 coupe, 289, slightly modded (edelbrock performer RPM airgap intake, holley 650 cfm 4 barrel, patriot tri y headers, flow master 40s and a C4 automatic with a B&M shift kit) what would be an estimated 1/8 mile time, whats a good 1/8 mile time, and trap speed. thanks for any help, im a track newbie[&o]

Check out the April '07 issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords. There is a whole "Drag Racing101" article. It walks you through the entire process and answers all the questions. The article also addresses all the etiquette type questions, as well as walk you through the entire process from the moment you cross the gates.
