Default 2007 Z06

My brother traded in his 2005 C6 for a brand new 2007 Z06 last Friday. What a beautiful car. I have to admit that at first I was insanely jealous. He asked me to go with him to Jersey to pick it up, but I declined saying that if I rode in it I'd never be able to get into my STI without hating it. But he's such a cool older brother that I couldn't help but be happy for him. I went over his house on Saturday night to check it out. He just hands me the keys and says "Don't wreck it". He showed me the different traction control settings and warned me of the "awesome power". I just laughed. I told him I'd be ok. I started off in "Competition mode" (that's what he drives it in) and after about 2 minutes I just turned the t/c off. I thought the car managed the power very well without t/c. It wasn't like the tires were breaking loose everytime I hit it - and I sure did hit it. I did a couple of highway runs where I could do a 0-100 on the on ramp. It is so much different that any car I have ever owned. On a run too 100, you barely hit 3rd. My 4.10 geared s/c Mustang was always being shiftet. Same with my STI. This car just never seems to run out of steam. Tons of torque no matter where you are in the RPM range. And it feels like you are driving a LeMans car. I didn't get a chance to put it through the twisties, but I could tell from the few sharp turns I took that this thing handles like it's on rails. All in all I got about 1/2 hour alone in the car. And he will let me drive it any time I want.....but I want my own. I have a list of 8 in my area. I am slowly working on the wife (it would be our 4th car). I might have to wait a month or two, but I'm getting one.

Lucky dog...makes me wonder though if the SRT-10 vipers are the same way (I know from what people have said that the car itself is a brute....it will beat you up), but as you described doing 0-100 just on the on-ramp, if the same can be achieved with the Viper.

what are your other cars?
Only one sporty car and that's my stage 2 STi. The others are a Ford Explorer for towing my boat and moving my 140 pound Bullmastiff (he doesn't fit well in a car) and my wife's 2005 Nissan Altima. The Explorer is paid off free and clear, but I need it for the boat (I might be able to bet away with towing it with the STi - it's a light boat). I have a note on the Altima and the STi is leased.

$3500 off of sticker. The dealer really seemed motivated to move the car, which prompted me to PM MrRogers to see if there was something I didn't know. Maybe the dealer thought the 2008 C6's bump in hp would hurt the Z06 sales. Got me. But he immediately offered $2500 off and then went to $3500 to close the deal. But still - his payment is $1250 a month. That ain't chump change.

I hear the Viper is more unruly. I was shocked by how manageable the power was. If the car had no speedometer, I'd swear my old Mustang was just as fast. But all I had to do was look at the HUD to see I was doing 100 in no time to know that is was faster than any car I have ever driven. I hammered it a few times and the tires never really broke free. Of course they are freakin' mamouth. I'll post some pics of the car in a few days. It's really sharp looking. Much nicer looking than the base C6 (no offense, C6 ).
