Yea, sounds like a regular 6 speed.

 

The thing that I don't get about launching is how to keep the car from rolling with your foot off the brake? Also, I was told by a buddy of mine that I should be shifting at the max torque rpm which is (I think) 3500... but I feel like I'm much faster closer to redline? What is your take on this???

 

Well, I can't launch my car for the life of me. I usually shift 1-2, 2-3, just about redline, 3-4 at about 5000-5500.

i dont know man, the GTI's are fast but some people just dont know how to drive. i have only raced one but i beat it by quite a bit. it was a regular 6 speed, and this was some 40 year old guy, so he probably had alot of experiance driving. but w/e congrats on the kill. racing isnt always about who has the faster car, its also about who is the better driver. i have beat a stage 2 cobalt SS because he effed up his launch.

The MK4 GTI's are 1.8T, MK5's are 2.0T.

 

i had a similar experience with a gti one night on my way home...after i smoked him, at the next light i asked him if he wanted to do it again for 100 bucks......he laughed said no, complimented my pony and we drove like gentelman....but ironically he would not pass me....LOL.....i guess he learned......anyone else ever get challenges from some of the later model benz kompressors (v6)? seems to happen all timeto me.....havent had one yet that can beat me....those things cannot launch...........also anyone ever get beat? i have and i have to say ...the stang still got respect when it was done...a honk and a friendly wave...or a complimentat the light....most usually cant believe they barley beat a 6......lol....doesnt happen often...but fun when it does...and i do not condone street or red light racing at all....i dont condone it...never said i wasnt guilty of it...lol.....nice kill btw...
