I was driving last night , minding my own business, when all of a sudden a 2007 GTI pulls along side me and reves his engine then pulls away...I continue to drive my own pace. Then we are at the light and he is just begging for it...So I nod. I don't like street racing but why not! LOL!!! I get the jump and he's right along side me from 1st to 2nd then I start to pull on him and kept pulling through 4th then we let off... he was about a car lengthbehind... I have a bone stock 4.0L 6'er!!! I thought those GTI'swere supposed to be fast!

nice.. i beat a turbo talon the other day, about surpised the **** outta me but i was happy =D

 

ha yeah, alot of those guys driving the new gti's think they are hot ****. i was at a gas station and there was one right next to me. i say nice car and he says thanks ( in a cocky way). next thing u know were at a light on woodward. i race him and win. i was suprised his car is stock and mine just has a mrt CAI and flowmaster axle back. i beat him by about 1 1/2 lengths. it felt good haha.

 

Nice! I don't race a lot but I figured...what the hell? Maybe he'll think twice next time. I don't know what it is about having a sixer but everyone seems to think we're soooo slow and I get asked to race at least 5 times a week!

0-60 mph : 6.9 sec.(manual), 6.7 sec.(DSG)
0-¼ mile : 15.1 sec @ 92.1 mph(manual)

 

It was close but I was pulling on him. I was surprised at how much he kept up.

 

If he had a tune you would have lost, a tune alone on those cars give them about +50hp.

 

Dunno what he had but it wasn't enough for my stocksixer! Maybe he was anAT? but I heard him rev right before the light changed. I have a hard time heel toe launching so I just launched how I always do... Either wayhe got what he was looking for!

 

There are no automatic GTI's, you can get them in either a 6 speed manual, or a DSG sequential. I guess you can consider the DSG an automatic since theres no clutch pedal. But either way, in the case of the GTI, the "automatic" DSG will be faster than a 6speed. My guess is that he had a 6speed, and you got a better launch than him. If it was a DSG and an 2007 he would have had launch control and probably would have launched much better. Did you hear him just rev the engine or did he rev it up and hold it before the launch?

 

He revvedand held it, then the light didn't change when we thought,then I heard him back off the throttle...I tried to heel toe it at first but felt it would be too difficult a launch for me... (new to rwd) I'm pretty sure it didn't have DSG... I pulled the hardeston him at a shift point though I'm pretty sure... cuz I was at around 5600 before I shifted to 4th and hestarted to fall behind a lot more at that point. Once I got it into 4th we both let off a few seconds laterand I was about a car ahead...
