fast is all relative. all harleys will do mid to high 12s if the rider has half a brain, and knows how to ride a bike, which isn't usually the case.
You need to change this to all Harley's with motor work will do mid to high 12's. I GUARANTEE you get on a stock Harley you won't do 12's! Or I wasted about $6000 on motor work. I'm not standing up for Harley's but like I've always said don't knock something you know nothing about.
you're right, i was thinking of a whole different local harley club than i should've been.

lol nitrous busa? 9 second bike? hate to tell ya, but busas run in the 9s just as you buy them off the showroom floor, and with a small spray setup get into the 8's pretty cheaply^_^

the true choppers, while they usually have 20 or 30 so more horsepower than a harley, aren't much faster, they weigh pushing close to 700 lbs (twice as much as a 600 with the same hp) without rider.
+1
Couldn't have said it better. Guys..don't F*&$ with a hayabusa..

There is NO WAY IN HELL that ALL Harley's can run in the 12's. You really don't know what your talking about. That's like saying ALL cars are fast. There are Harleys that are very heavy and don't have much horsepower, because they are made for cruising not dragracing.

ok, great.chill... i already said i was wrong. i was mistaken about the group of harley riders that i based that statement on. i honestly never thought that harleys were that slow since apparently i've never seen but a handfull of stock ones at the dragstrip.

You guys have to realize that aharley might run a 11 or 12 but look at some of the trap speeds... if you get next to them from any kind of a roll on that launch advantage is gone...

http://www.chuckhawks.com/super_glide_sport.htm
SuperGlideSport - For example... 13.54 seconds at 96.48

A 1998 1200 Sporster I looked up ran 12.89 @ 100.3 MPH and the guy was modded (stage1 ?)

A2000 roadster was listed at 13.03 and 100.03 mph

Unlike sportbikes their trap speeds are much less than a car would have at similar ET. This is just what Ive seen..obviously V-Rods and a few other harleys are execptions to this.

absolutely right, S8ER01Z. this has everything to do with the v-twin power curve compared to an I4 power curve from bikes such as my 78s and modern sportbikes. v-twins peak early and low, with about equal peak hp and torque #s. they are good off the line, but not at much else. thatswhythat engine config has been so popular for cruisers, because ofthe torgue to leavethe line (stoplght, what have you) in a hurry.an I4, like my 78 (a good comparo, it makes about 75 hp, similar to most harleys) has little torque, about half of peak hp, and it makes next to nothing down low. I4s have screaming top ends, while v-twins are weaker up high, but more consistent.

Yamaha mean streakwas always my favorite bike.... they are beastly little Vtwins if you are looking for speed, other than that the only harley's I know that are pretty fast are the night trains (I don't even know if they still make them)

http://www.kawasakinewcastle.com.au/...meanstreak.jpg

^^ those bikes can pull about low-mid 13's... not too bad for a Vtwin, and like ride said, up high the brute force of the engines should move it a bit better than from a direct stop
