Default question about a race

my friend has a 2004 srt-4 neon. those things make 230 hp 250 ft-tq. now these things are supposed to do the 1/4 mile in about 13.8 seconds and 0-60 in about 5.3. i was wondering if i could beat or even stand a chance. i got a 1988 lx hatch. i have a CAI, mac shortie headers, o/r H-pipe, cat back exhaust, 3:73 gears on the rear, and some perfomance wires, new spark plugs and a MSD cap n rotor. i should be making more hp then he is and i know i make way more torque. i check on the internet and it says his car weights about 2800 - 2900 lb, and i think my 5.0 is about 3200 lb. so my Q is what will it come down to. i know from a dig a might have a problem because of wheel spin, but then again the guy im racing almost redlines his car when he pops the clutch. could i take him on a role? i was thinking second gear at around 2500 - 3000 rpm. what do you guys think, has anyone ever raced one with similar mods?

Seems kind of heavy for a neon... Learn to drive and you should take him. And why 2500rpm? You don't make power down low. Get it up. This is a good topic for the 5.0 general discussion

o well when i went to buy my stang the owner who works for ford at the assymboly line said it makes all of its power from 3000RPM and up, so thats where i would race from a roll, i still have to adjust my timing on the car though, i think i could get it to run better by doing so. the guy also put on a blow off valve, i was talking to my frineds and they said that if you dont tune the car with the blow off it will reduce the HP. srt's are pretty quick though, my dad has a srt-8 300c and i get the plessure of driving it from time to time, i drove it today actually and they got some pony power in em, if i were to race my dad what do you think would happen?

+1. From a dig you should win by a good bit. From a roll its gonna be very close.

Definately make sure you race him from a dig, any type of a roll and you will be toast.

They are FWD like said before and they have the sime probably with traction as you except worse. Just take it easy off the line and you will stand a chance, if not your done. I've driven my friends 03 SRT-4 and they pull hard in 2nd gear. The first gear in those cars are just as slow as my grandma getting out of bed.

Practice your launches and make sure you have a half tank or less and no extra weight.

Stock they run mid 14's people have claimed 13.8 out of them stock, but I have not once seen that out've a stock neon at the track. I've talked to a few people at the track that are like "I have intake and exhaust and i'm hoping for a 13.9" and they pull off a 14.5...

Trust me, whatever you do don't race them from a roll that is where they will smoke you and they will try and cheat you by brake boosting and all their other riceroni tricks.

First off...is he stock and are you sure? If he's not stock you might want to check on it.

Secondly...race from a dig and a roll. It all depends on who you race, not every neon driver is bad at launching.

Thirdly...I had to laugh at "tricks." Since when is brake boosting a "trick" or "cheating." Besides, brake boosting won't do him much good in a completely stock car.

I have beaten an srt b 4. You should be fine, race from a roll and a dig. Try not to lose traction, and do not let him get a head of you. Will be close, but you should have him.
