Default Almost Lost...

I raced my brothers' friend the other night.

He has an '02 VTEC Civic manual trans, with underdrive pulleys, headers/full exhaust, full intake, aftermarket wheels, I guess he had some racing s***, (clutch maybe)IDK but it was a close race.

I have an '89 5.0 LX auto trans[:'(], cold air intake andcatback exhaust. That's about it.
I had my brother in the car (225lbs) I'm about 240lbs, his friend with the civic is about 170 if that, so he had the obvious weight advantage.

Anyways, I preloaded it to only 1500, he had it red-lining, we took off and he spun a little and I got the better jump, (I didn't even chirp the tires, but I had my bro in the car so... I guess)I had him bya half car.Anytime he would shift gears he would pull on me just to my front fender, after the auto trans shifted into second (@ 55-60) I pulled about 3 cars on him and it was over.

Scared the s*** out of me that he kept up so well, and I'm pretty pissed that I didn't kill him.[:@]

We should have raced w/o my bro in the car and I should have preloaded it to like 2250 or so.

Whatever. A win is a win.

You probably have super tall highway gears from the factory. Replacing them would be a huge gain. Good kill, even though it was an N/A four banger.

Oh yeah, I only have 2.73 gears.

When I put a shift improver kit in, underdive pulleys, and then installthe 4.10's it won't evenbe close with my brother in the car.

An AOD with 2.73 gears is horrid, Ford should have been shot for that combo. Slap 4.10's in it ASAP.

The AOD is A slushbox and the 2.73's do not help any at all!!!!!
Do a 5-Speed swap and you will destroy him with no probs at all. Or a nice 2,400+ Converter will get you out of the hole in a hurry!!

I have an AOD with 2.73 gears, they're not as bad as people say. I don't plan on ever swapping them out.

I forgot to mention I always have a toolbox, some spare parts, (cap/rotor, spark plug wires)jumper cables and mini air compressor (weighs 2lbs.) in the back along with the spare tire, lug wrench, and mini jack, my dad makes me keep all that s*** in the back "just in case." I agree with that but jesus christ thats at least an extra 75 lbs. all together. By the way my daddy didn't pay for the car..... I HAVE a job.

An extra 75lbs is really nothing. That's like an extra 2ft. So unless you beat him by 2ft or less...I wouldn't worry. lol
