Racing in 5th gear in any stock stang is just stupid. 5th gear is for cruisng and is not designed for any productive acceleration.

Good kill but I would've put a limit somewhere. That and a 70+ roll.

he has the 6.1 hemi...425hp
They do make some serious power, im geared and have bolt ons, ~340rwhp (me)
don't feel bad, they're priced like a vette so figure your 25K GT + 20K mods> 45K SRT8...plus they're no fun to drive, no manual trans option and a big land yacht to boot...but I guess reading the other posts we should be able to pwn them from a dig so I guess he just top-ended you, like the fbodys do...

I'm guessing by your post here that you are a younger guy, so let me give you a 40 y/o perspective here onyour "they're no fun to drive" remark.

I could not disagree more. We have two children, and need room.Prior toour SRT8, we owned a Denali. Now, that wasa land yaught, although itwas comofortable.

I'll agree that I wish there were a 6-speed option, and it is coming next year, butour Magnum SRT8 isvery fun to drive. In spite of it's size, ithandles exceptionally well, and better than my 06 GT.the Brembo brakes are top shelf, and so are theF1's.

the 6.1 hemi makes all the right sounds, and the performance is really impressive for a car of it's size. I have had several runs against LS2 GTO's, and the SRT8 hangs right there with them door handle to door handle. Amazing attributes considering I can haul 5 in comfort with navigation, rear DVD, a sunroof, etc.Again, a stick will be welcome, but the autostick feature is fun to play with now and then.

I paid 38kand tax otd. That's 6k less than I paid for the Denali and it was 3 yrs old when we traded it. For the practicality, content, and performance the SRT8 offers it's a raging bargain.
I'm 30 y/o, no kids and never will have any (snip-snip...get it?), so I can't really relate or participate in any SUV or sedan discussions, so yeah I guess for what it is the LX body (that's a charger/magum/300 for anyone not familiar with DC) is a good car; fast for a four-door sled and very little problems, but I think they're ovepriced (r/t, daytona and srt8 all three) for a single person with no kids and the occasional good-lookin chick in the passenger seat. I'm done some seat time in an R/T and yes I got that good ol' american v8 (although it's a mercedes engine) feeling, but I just wanted a car with a manual trans and solid axle, less expensive and smaller. I was very frustrated when I learned you couldn't get an LX with a true stick...

Point of clarification. Neither the 5.7 or the 6.1 were designed by the Daimler side of D/C. Should be alot fun when it gets the Viper 6-speed next year.

I'm 38 with a 5 year old. Flipping up and then re-setting the mustangs front seats gets old quick putting the kid in the backseat all the time.

BTW, The SRT-8s have some of the best seats I've ever sat in.
Yes, atthe pointwe are at itcomes down to what can makelife easier. The perfect scenario really for a car guy like me is having an SRT8 as a daily driver, and being able to keep the Mustang for recreation only. It's a dilema decididing which car to take.

I'm very pleased with both, and if I had to for any reason I would replace them with another. They are both great bargains, and really in a class by themselves right now. I'll be tempted to pull the trigger on the Challenger when it comes out.

It's funny, when I brought the GT home, my neighbors came over and instantly assumed it was faster than the SRT8. They could not believe it when I told them the SRT8 wasthe faster car, and that my wife easily pulled away from the GT on the way home from the dealer. Of course, I had tosave face and bought a blower!

Actually no. TheDaimler componant sharing is limited to a steel version of the E-class suspension, the 5-speed auto trans, and the rear end. There is some switch gear carry over from Daimler as well, but as I stated the engine and the remaining content is all Chrysler.

You should have handily won the race if you truly have 340rwhp and gearing...or at least have been so far ahead by 130 that he wouldn't catch you. They are nasty up high...but 30hp won't nearly make up for 500lbs and gearing...
As I said, I started basically giving him a length lead, and ended up 1.5 ahead before I had to hit 5th. so technically, that would put me out about 2.5 lengths from 70-130. From a dig, I would have put more...
So what year mustang and what mods are you running?
