Yeah that's one thing I don't really understand of Ford going modular, they knew the mustang was underpowered in 94/95, so they should of atleast upped the power when they went to the new 4.6 model rather than waiting till '99 to do it. Or could of just kept the 5.0 around till '99 to make the switch to something more powerful.

Who knows what they were after (I am sure $$$$$ was the object since the whole OHC switch was to draw more mass appeal).... I used to laugh when my 5.0 buddys would start ripping on the 4.6 when it came out even though they made similar power numbers.... I think they omitted the 94/95 GT from their memory because they never compared the 5.0 vs 4.6 in the SN95 platform..just the 5.0 in the fox vs 4.6 in the SN95.
Look at the development that went into the Mods recently. Esepcially in the area of heads, like the new 3V heads on the S197's. If Ford had put that sorta effort/tech into a 302 head, they would have some VERY good power numbers from the W. But alas, it was not to be, so now there are rebuilt 302's like mine running around, turning less than 6k rpm and ripping apart the new S197's in stock/mildly modded form. The new Mods do take VERY well to forced induction though, so you can't really complain. Slap a decent turbo kit on a S197 and go run mid 12's on pump gas all day long without much effort
I guess we can always hope there's some truth to the rumor of the new upcoming 5.0 modular, but I haven't seen anything conclusive or concrete yet. Such a motor would make 375-400hp easily with a completely tame ride. I guess time will tell.
But the hell with it. I'd like to see Ford put some dough into the development of a new performance specific 6.2-6.4 OHV motor. Tag it as the CobraJet 2 and you've got all the marketing you need. Perfect for the next generation Cobra and a brand new 2 seater Corvette competitor (which Ford is sorely missing out on). It'll probably never happen..........but as a Mustang fan I gotta speak my ideas outloud sometimes.[8D]

Yeah, Ford would do well to build a 6-7L engine to compete with the LSx family. And the 5.0 Cammer can be bought as a crate engine from Ford right now, but whether they'll actually stick it in something like a Mustang is anyone's guess. They should though, cuz then they could use "The 5.0 is back!" as an advertising slogan, only instead of 215hp it'd have close to 400. And a little TLC in the 5.0 Cammer and you have a strong competitor to the LSx family. If Ford is going to use the technology of OHC engines they could at least put some effort into making them perform with some of their competitors

They need Coletti back..................BAD.
Didn't Coletti pretty much say that Ford was putting him the position where he finally had to just slap a blower on and call it quits?? I thought he was pretty adament about staying N/A and getting some more power out of what they had.
If thats the case he had his hands tied from the get go...I don't see how he could do anything more now than he could then.

Forget about power output when comparing the modular VS LSx for a second.....What about the size and weight difference between a LS smallblock and the 5.4 Iron block.....Compared to the LS7, the size of the 5.4 looked like it was cherry picked out of Union Pacific Diesel Engine....Not only do they need to put their Stangs on a diet ,they need to put their powerplant on one too...
