Default 5.7L LS1 vs 5.7L Hemi & 6.0 LS2 vs 6.1L Hemi

How would you guys rate these engines against one another, the 5.7's vs each other and the 6.0 vs the 6.1? I know this isnt street/strip, but I figured it would get some love here. I think the 5.7 LS1 is better than the 5.7L Hemi, but I think the 6.1L Hemi is better than the 6.0 LS2. For the Charger SRT-8 weighing so much it is pretty damn quick, and if it was in something lighter like a Dodge Neon or the new Avenger, that bad boy would pull so damn hard. So what do you guys think?

i think the LS1 is superior to the 5.7 hemi.

but the 6.1 hemi is superior to the 6.0 GTO. the hemi puts out like 470 crank hp in reality, the LS2, puts out about 400, more or less.

i agree. the 6.1 is a very impressive engine, daimler chrysler just can't seem to ge **** right though. If they put that 6.1 hemi in a lighter (preferably coupe) body with a stick shift, they would just dominate the muscle car market, but instead they put it in some heavy four door sedans and an suv. Even if they did put the 6.1 in a better body they would still have to drop their price close to 10 grand to compete with a mustang. We'll see soon when the Camaro and the challanger comes out if people are willing to spend more for a couple 10ths better performance.

Wow...does the 6.1 really put out 470 bhp stock? If so, I am very impressed. I thought they were around 425 bhp (claimed anyway).

Only if Ford gives a huge power bump at the time of the Camaro/ Challenger debut...As it stands now a 300bhp 3v would be down close to a full second if the LS2/6.1 hemi were in a car with a similar weight class with the GT

I would'nt put much stock in that 470bhp claim.....The fact of the matter is between the late 70's until 1993 the GT was the top trim in the Mustang line-up (whick I think has a lot to do with complaints from Mustang fans about a underpowered car compared with the competition)....Since the introduction of SVT and their Cobras,it seems that is the car most in line with most potential to run with other top tier muscle car trims...I don't see a GT in the distant future being on par with SSCamaro's or SRT class vehicles.......The Cobra and perhaps a forthcoming Boss will represent the Blue Oval inthat upcoming battle..

Exactly. I would be happy with a 4v GT with about 325rwhp stock and possibly a 6spd manual tranny. I also think they should come with 13" or bigger brakes and other components like lowering springs, and other suspension work.
