At any rate one night last week on the way home had a Focus SVT pull up next to me on the interstate, so at around an 80mph roll we got on it. Before we took off I could hear his turbo spooling so thought there could be trouble.
The Focus SVT does NOT have a turbo. If it did have a turbo, it would be aftermarket, and it would have killed you.

And as for the coulda/woulda/shoulda ricer math. You are trying to compare the brand new price of an SVT Focus to your used Mustang?!?! WTF?! First off, the sticker price of an SVT Focus was $19,000, so you're $6000 off right off the bat. Now, if you compare used costs of a 2003 SVT Focus to a 2003 Mustang GT, you're looking at KBB private party values of$7,950 for the Focus and $13,355 for the Mustang GT. The Focus beats your car in ricer math. Nice try.

I still laugh at people that say excuses like, "well I could spend $X and beat X car." Fact is, these people are in denial of the current performance contidion of their car. I always like to say that I could strap a space shuttle rocket booster to a Kia Rio and beat your car. Making statements about what you could do doesn't make your car faster in its current state.

power to weight ratio dude!!! the svt focus doesnT need 300 hp to beat a 300hp mustang!! not suprized at what any ricer does....plus any boosted car done right makes it tough for a street driven naturally aspirated car to keep up.

I'm pretty sure he's WELL AWARE of that..

no need to jump down the guys throat man.. well, alot of you really.

As for a Tubod Focus laying the beat down,,,, maybe,, maybe not....

a small turbo probably wouldnt have made a giant difference,, but to pull him like he did, it does seem odd

A small turbo kit on the SVT Focus will net ~250 whp, which is more than a 2003 Mustang GT. Couple that with the 700 lb weight difference, and, like I said, a turbo Focus would have killed him.

Good grief people. I'm just telling you what they were saying on the FOCUS forum. The guy on the FOCUS forum was laughing about his $25K car beating a $75K corvette, now a $75K corvette would mean a Z06. Seeing as how he said he put $11K in his engine I would say he paid more than $25K total unless he bought his used as well, because

As for the guy I was racing I heard his turbo and he told me afterwards he had a turbo. I was suprised that I was pulling on him, I thought he would beat me.

I know that if you spend enough money ANY car can be fast. I was basing what the guy on the forum said to what I could do to mine.

As for the turbo, I checked out the dyno thread they have on the FOCUS forum and most of these guys with just turbo and exhaust are only in the 190-200 whp range. In the 250+ range we're talking more serious upgrades. And from what I'm seeing in the 300+hp range we're talking allot more than $10K in mods.

I have to ask though, are there any Mustang fans here? This is the first Mustang forum I've ever been on that people have to act like jerks. If this is the treatment you dish out I'll go back to the other forums where they are far more civilized.

And lastly why refer to these guys as ricers? They have legit cars and I respect that. I just question some of the cars they claim to beat that have close to 100+hp advantage over them.

Have a nice day!

Yes they do. There's a 5 cylinder turbo Focus in Europe. I have no idea why it isn't over here. One of Fords many weird decisions. It would be nice for Ford to have a turbo competitor to the SRT-4, MS3, Cobalt SS, EVO, and WRX.

Hard to compare cars when your already at 80 mph. You would prob have a better chance off the start to beat him... exp if your rollin with a stick.

Because if they built a lower priced turbo car it would take sales away from the Mustang. Alot of people would rather have a highly moddable turbo for 22 grand then they would have a V8 car for 27 grand. I think thats why GM is killing the Cobalt SS. Just so kids wont have to choose between the less expensive Cobalt ss when the new Camaro comes out.
