Not to mention the whole displacement thing. Why start with fewer cubes? I think the Mach1 and other upscale mustangs should have a N/A high output 5.4 in them. give the cobra a blown 5.4, and the regular GTs can keep the 4.6
But tht's just me.

Better question is what's the difference between the older Cobras and the GTs? According to MSN the engine is the same (94/95). Do they get different gears to make them quicker?

all cobra seen to be tweaked a lil. the 94-95 'stang were not good years and that damn computer in them aren't very freindly. it will take some time before the mod engine gets praise as first it hard to work on..2 parts are still high but thet should but 5.4 in all stang and used the 4.6 for an lx or so...they need 3 "factory " trim level not those 5k add ons

hey take a 98 add some parts and have a total sleeper... hit 13's with some nice goodies and you will shock the sh** out of most everyone... the 4.6 was a joke to me when i first heard of it, and in 98 when i bought mine new ( blew my cutlass supreme int. up) i spanked the sh** out of my best friends 95 and all i did was gears at the time... yes mine was a slowmatic and his a 5.0 5 speed.. he ran out and got flows, cai, and a hypertech chip.. i got a tb, cai, xpipe and flows, and a shift kit and crushed him even worse .. the 4.6 will come around and is a great powerplant.. tragic flaw: PRICE TO MOD... damn you could build a killer 302 for the price of heads for a 4.6

My dad's 2.5-3 on Yukon still gets 17mpg with a 350. And it's shaped like a brick. A 5.4 equipped Mustang would still get in the 20's with the right gears (which is why they come with crappy gears from the factory anyway). And I don't think it would add all that much weight. It's not like the block is significantly larger. .8 L more displacement is one tenth of a liter per cylinder. They've got the same bore but just over a half an inch stroke (3.54 to 4.16).
And I say why not start with the 5.4 as the hot Mustang motor? Sure, you can take the 4.6 and mod it to make the same or more power, but why not start with an advantage? The new 5.4 makes 300hp. Not shabby.

Look at the New Supra it's smaller than the 4.6 and make great power with or without mods. Look at the Italian car Ferrari and Lamborghini they use small displacement engine and make tons of power.
